My friend and I attend a (somewhat randomly selected) college football rivalry game each year, and this year we picked the LSU - Alabama game in Baton Rouge. This has been the rivalry we have circled for a few years, but and this is the first time it has worked in our schedules. Needless to say, we are pretty excited!

We are from the Midwest and want to get the full Tiger, home game weekend experience while we are in town. Neither of us has been to Baton Rouge, so we are looking for advice on the following:

What to do on Friday?: Good food spots, cool bars to go to, must-see's on campus?

Gameday: It was recommended we check out the tailgate scene (an most likely become engulfed in it). Are there any "common area" tailgates that are open for anyone to join? Also, are there any traditions that we should be sure to see?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

For food, I'm partial to Parrains on Friday night and Chimes on Sunday at noon.

Tailgating, parade ground.

Wow! You guys couldn't have picked a better one. Do you have tickets to the game?

Yes, we have tickets. This was the game that we both have wanted to see. We waited it out to see it in Death Valley too. I'm guessing we will be happy with that choice!

Looking forward to it! Do most people hang out on Friday night downtown or near campus? We are in our mid thirties, so we are looking for more alumni type places than college age crowds.

Ivars or around garden district area for post college crowd. The Bulldog is also a solid bet on Friday for non college crowd as is Chimes.

Game day just walk around the parade grounds and introduce yourself (maybe you could goto Walk Ons if you didn't want to be on parade grounds)

Make sure you catch the team and the band walk down victory hill (look out for a gameday itinerary released by LSU), and be in your seats 30-45 minutes before kickoff. Have fun!

See collage gameday and then hit the parade grounds. Find out what time the team comes down the hill and watch the team and the band come down the hill, bring a plastic flask of whisky in the game. Have a plan for post game getting back to the room.

Not necessary. Aliens are welcome to just about any tailgate.

Indian mounds are good, you can get up high and survey the scene.

Love Parrain's

Find this place - I have lived in Louisiana all my life and this place is our food. If you can get in before 5pm on Friday night you will miss the 45 min to 1 1/2 hour wait

Sat - Game Day is ok but hard to see the guys on stage but they do put up a very Large TV to see the action - still cool

Once you get to the stadium area - don't leave

The Lsu Union is ok with lots of seating areas

Walk-ons is very hard to get seated but once you do the drinks and food are prime and you can see the stadium from Walk-ons and every person you talk that is no wearing RED know how to find Walk-ons

Stay away from the Bama fans - complete arse-holes !!

Geaux Tigers and you guys better pull for a Tiger Win

You should post this on the SEC board so all the Gumps can laugh at you and tell you "L5U" is just another game on the schedule.

Just don't leave early, you'll likely be featured on a post in here for doing so.

That is awesome. Thanks for the link! We started the rivalry game thing 5 years ago and it has been something that we look forward to and talk about all year. You will have a great time!
