I believe Les Miles is a good man. I believe he is a good recruiter… he seems to care for people… he tries to run his program… as best I can tell… in an above-board manner.
I believe he is at a bit of disadvantage in the SEC due to the bias toward Bama. The officiating… schedule… etc…
For ten years Miles has been at LSU and… even though he goes about things in an unorthodox way… he wins. Many times, those wins aren’t pretty… many times, he seems to get a lucky break or two.. but he wins… mostly…
He seems to love old-school football. His default mode or comfort zone as a Coach is running the ball between the tackles. You can almost predict the plays he’s gonna run. Personally I do not like that style of football which is part of the reason I stopped watching on tv some this year and followed more on twitter.
The perception, by lots of people nationwide is that Miles is goofy.. can’t coach etc… A lot of this his how he sounds before the media. When you put him beside.. basically.. any other Coach.. you find yourself, last times, thinking “what did he mean?”
Every year, during recruiting, LSU has players visit… big name players will come down to LSU & someone else… but lots of them end up signing w/other schools. Personally, I would like to see as much emphasis given to developing a qb as is given to getting a stud recruit to visit campus.
This year was TOUGH for LSU football. I honestly, have gotten to the point, I don’t like to watch it. It’s predictable and other things.
It is my opinion, that nationwide, LSU and Miles are trending down. They will finish outside the top 25 this year. That bothers me because ten years ago, LSU was on top of the college football heap.
I don’t wan to cheat to get back on top and I don’t think you have to.
I honestly do not believe LSU will win another Championship with Miles as Coach. He’s got to beat Bama to do it and, in spite of giving them a good game he can’t seem to close the deal. I know; Chavis is part of that so maybe that changes..
I personally think that part of the reason some of these kids go pro early is they get aggravated with decisions in the program.
This happened after the NC game in 2012.. happened a year or so ago after losing to Clemson and now, this year.
I’m just a fan… I have ZERO influence. But it bothers me that those who do have influence don’t seem to be bothered by the downward trend in LSU football.

My humble opinion:

So long as the program is generating money there is no need to rock the boat by making a change at HC; or at least the "powers that be" will see no reason to rock the boat.

Coach Miles will one day retire from LSU, on his own terms and at the point in time that suits HIM.

Miles gets a pass for this year for rebuilding and next year for breaking in a new DC.

I agree with much of what you said in your post. Personally I see no reason to be optimistic as long as Jennings will be the quarterback. If I were Joe Alleva, I would have Les come into my office and ask him "just what do you plan to do differently with the 2015 team to put a better product on the field?

I have supported Miles since he has been here, but it is becoming harder with each loss to a lesser opponent.

Funny how we were reading this same stuff out here in Ft Worth last yr. Just change the name to Patterson with your post and back date it a yr. Good guy, cares about the kids, wins, good recruiter.... but its time for a change. Patterson has taken the program as far as he can and its time to get new blood in here. He hasnt won a thing since Andy Dalton left.......
And again just like Miles had no QB in 2012 and didnt win as much.

I wonder if it was really just about the QB?

Personally, I'm tired of making excuses for the man. If LSU only competed against LSU, I'd be happy. That's not the case. We compete against the rest of the NCAA D1 schools, and they all have their eyes set on the big prize. I think any school worth their salt - especially if they've won NCs in the last 10 years, should always have a reasonable expectation every year of doing it again. In my opinion, that expectation at LSU is simply not there. A pattern is definitely in place.

The 10-Win Settlers would have a point if it weren't for 20 other schools doing the same thing. And when the 10-Wins result in a #16 ranking amongst your peers (last year), that leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when all the other ingredients for an NC, most notably talent, are right there in front of you.

I'm concerned for the future of LSU football, and I trace my concern back to January 9th, 2012. That was a huge fire alarm. It's certainly argumentative, I do think the previous coach had a profound affect on CLM's record, and that "mojo" has finally come to an end and CLM is under his own power. Always a Tiger fan, but terribly disappointed in the current state of affairs.

If LSU wants to be on Bama's level and win consistently, they will need to get comfortable with bending the rules a good bit more.

I'll leave it at that.

Until then, we are either losing to Bama in November, or beating them and playing them again in January. Either way, that is the fate of the program as it stands.

If you don't like it, quit watching.

My thoughts are since he orchestrated the worst loss in the history of the program being embarrassed in our home state by our former coach, the seventh highest paid coach in America has lost 2,3 and now 4 conference games and LSU will finish out of the Top 25. I think if I did that at my job I would be looking for a new one. During this time he bullied our idiot AD into actually giving him a raise! We really wasted an opportunity with that Arkansas interest but Miles apologists have all kinds of excuses, I'm more of a results driven individual. I think as long as Les is our coach you can guarantee 2-5 losses a year with a ton of NFL talent.
