It’s called expand the playoffs by a lot, even more than 12

Yea because Ohio State isn't in the playoff this season and doesn't have a reciever opting out.

The players aren't stupid, they know at some point their team has no chance in the playoff, it won't change it.

It may help slightly but past 12 hell even past 8 you still will see opt outs

expand playoffs and make bowl games a preseason (does not count) week 0 exhibition bowl game for the next 16-24 teams outside of the playoffs.

He's opting out because he's hurt and won't be playing. Do you do any research at all, or just regurgitate whatever you read on the rant?

He is hurt, he's not opting out. He has barely played all season with a lingering injury he's getting surgery on

It's getting to be that the teams that are playing in the bowl games are nowhere near the teams we saw during the season. Lack of interest because of this will cause the end of bowl games.

Was the "opting out" started because of Covid?

If players
are afraid they may get hurt in a bowl game, what do they expect when they get to the pros and 4 300 hundred pound lineman fall on them. College football player are just going nuts these days. It will not be the same sport any more.

They will have been paid at that point. The fear (which I think is grossly over blown) is that an injury now could hurt his draft stock and hence his earnings. There’s a big drop off in salary after the top 10-20 picks

There may actually be upside to Gaye not playing (Savion Jones and Quency Wiggins come to mind). The television companies are going to have to start incentivising the best players to play. An Xbox and a couple of gift cards just won't do it anymore.

I agree. The answer is tying bowl game outcomes to your next preseason ranking. You have to make all bowl games relevant. The playoff teams are locked in, 1-4. Starting with the highest bidding bowl game outside of the playoffs, the winning team is locked in at #5, 2nd is #6... on down the line, and the losing teams are relegated to spots outside of the locked positions.

As it stands now, what incentive is there to play? Only one, to increase your draft stock for fringe players on the fence about the draft. It doesn't matter if the teams win or lose, because there's zero carryover, zero, and it's absurd. You're asking guys to play for nothing. Right now, if you win the Citrus Bowl? Awesome, we'll put you at #10, you did great! Lose the Citrus Bowl? Well, they lost, but Daniels is coming back, they'll be great, better than last year for sure... put them at #10!

If you want players to buy in to a team mentality, make the process have a fricking effect on the team. A concrete, you-get-this-for-doing-this effect. Wait, why am I the only one carrying this banner? It's heavy, and it's dragging on the GD ground.

First of all they kinda do, preseason rankings tend to skew heavier to the previous seasons final rankings. But so what? The final 4 will be determined on that season’s results

the biggest beneficiary of the playoffs-expanded or otherwise-is espn.

we’re turning the college game into the nfl, and that’s a very bad thing.

Why in the first place was there not an expanded playoff to start off with? It's not turning it into the NFL when every single division of football from high school to professional has a playoff system other than the FBS. Not one person anti playoff has given a good reason as to why it's bad other than them just not liking change.

We should do the study but I would almost guarantee that most of these kids going back to their home environments is more dangerous than school, practice and a game.

These guys aren't just going back home to hang out. They are going to Cali, Florida, or somewhere else to train for the combine.

the exception that proves the rule.

How many players over the past 10 years have played in bowl games? Let's say 40 players get on the field for each team. 40-ish bowls, so that's 80 teams = 3200 players.

Each year.

So over the past decade, there have been 32,000 players that play in bowl games, and 2 (that you mention, perhaps there are more, but very, very, very few) have had career-impacting injuries.

The players are at more risk of being seriously injured in the bus ride to the stadium.

Yes we have, a billion times, you just may not like or agree with it. But expanded playoffs cheapen the regular season. This is simply a fact. I actually had a thread about it his before the World Series this year on the MSB.

uh, who pays for the players to play the game?

Without fans (TV viewers, ticket sales, donations, concessions, merchandise, etc.) college football as we know it wouldn't exist.

Starting line. We'll still have Jones, Guillory, Wiggens, Langston, and Hill. Plus any LBs they want to try at Edge.

We'll be fine.
