Your arguments aren’t wrong, they are just based on the upper 5% of mega programs. The vast, and I mean vast, majority of college football suffers from this stuff. For 98% of all college football players, the education, traditions, finishing what you started, school pride, bowl games, and memories therein mean everything.
So essentially, 95% of college football turns to shite because the 5% want to bleed every dollar out of the institution.
College football might be better in the long run if players could be locked into a contract. If the big time players want to not attend college the NFL should just allow them to sign straight out of High School.

It’s like the Pro Bowl in NFL. Players selected sit out with ‘injuries’

This opting out BS has to be fixed
They need to tie NIL to time played… if LSU boosters are going to pony up NIL money which his a joke, The money that is being paid out has nothing to do with Name Image or Likeness! Then they need to write into their contract that they must play X number of games, including so called meaningless bowl games or forfeit the money!

Bama admitted to insuring them against career-ending injuries. Tenner did this via Lloyds of London with Peyton and I have no issue with it...

Dude what are you going to do players have been opting out for years, granted it was normally 1st rounders.
If it's not a playoff its just an exhibition game.
Purdue lost its 1 reciever and Qb .
shite happens

I think most people understand it’s a business decision for the players. But at the same time, this is another symptom of the death of college football as we knew it. Maybe it was inevitable or maybe it was always a pro minor league. But now it’s in the open and it sucks.
I’d be fine if college football went back to being a club sport with no scholarships and no recruiting. I can watch the NFL when I want pros and corporatism.

They have to make the playoffs if you want them to not opt out.
It’s the damn Cheez It bowl, what do you expect?

Jamal Adams running down Heisman winner Lamar Jackson is what me think these Purdue players do not want film of SEC defenders bottling them up completely in the bowl.

Pretty much. It also doesn’t help that there are 40+ plus bowl games where there were only 18 in the mid 90s. Used to be a reward for a good season. Hard to be mad at the players for opting out when many teams are playing in stadiums that are less 50% full. Lot of fans opting out too.

I think it will come to be that NIL offerings are contingent upon playing the FULL season to include bowl.

For a century all the bowls except one or two were “meaningless” if anything not the NC is “meaningless”. But only now do players opt out in droves.
If it’s simply the fear of injury hurting draft stock, then the only solution might be insurance paid for by the school or conference. That won’t stop all opt outs but it’d help.

If that’s the standard, then 95% of all college football games are “just an exhibition” bc most teams are either never in the playoff hunt or are out of it by mid season.
So I guess we can start expecting opt outs in the regular season. At first it’ll just be the cupcake games and then it’ll be conference games. I mean, why not?

The NCAA should not count bowl participation against a players redshirt. The bowl could then be a positive development opportunity for freshmen that have been behind these opt-out players.

You could've said something more realistic like a Senior who tears his ACL. Nobody should be forced but I know a decent amount opting out aren't 1-3 round players. I only said most because there are some with high draft grades.

They mean an extra, sometimes 3 weeks of practice and now players can play RSs can play in game without counting against them ie.
Quincy W, Nuss could have play last year.

There's only one way to "fix" it, if the staff wants to fix it and to fix it in a way the team and the players both gain. And it would require the NCAA to change some rules.
Firstly, why wouldn't they want to fix it? The NCAA has been the primary driver in "making bowls matter less" from recently deciding that the bowl game at the end of a year doesn't count towards the 4-game redshirt, increasing the number of bowl games, introducing the transfer portal (which just streamlined what already existed but did increase the volume due to that streamlining), starting a designated transfer period before the bowl games and 1st signing day, etc. So if the NCAA basically now considers the bowl game an exhibition game for next season the staff may see it the same way. And instead of "fixing" it they are shifting their outlook to next years team and are perfectly fine with it.
So, if they want it fixed, here's the only way without going backwards w/transfer rules and the NIL...
A) allow the school itself to do some advertising in conjunction with the bowl sponsor and everybody gets some form of a NIL payment. Straight up pay-for-play.
B) because of the NIL ruling which allows them to sign agents for the purpose of NIL (only) come bowl time let those who would not be playing next year, for whatever reason, go ahead and sign their agents and still be eligible for the bowl game. Because of the NIL ruling this rule is practically dead anyway.
C) Since it is pretty much an exhibition game anyway turn bowl practices into mini-combines or combine prep. Allow NFL scouts/GMs all the access they want including interviews. Give our guys an early opportunity before everybody else.
D) NCAA allow consultants to work with the team as the same as combine prep. Many guys are opting out "to get ready". They've had a whole year of practices, so use that practice time for them to start getting ready. Yes, there's some game prep. But if you're keeping your starters around for the game, that prep time is much less as compared to having to prep a bunch of first time starters. Usually once they sign an agent the agent pays for this and the player has to pay the agent back. So in this case, it would be provided by the program, at our facilities, in lieu of payment the player plays at least a portion of the bowl game.
The team/program and the individual players both benefit from this.
** I don't think this needs fixing personally until one specific thing happens: An OptOut from a playoff team. Which is coming once the playoffs expand. Then there's an issue. But even if OptOut doesn't need fixing I'd rather see A-D above happen anyway.

Entire Dline opting out except for Wingo is inexcusable.
All it tells me is that they don't love the game. A guy that loves the game is pumped to get on the field. Like I have said before, most of us would play for free.

Well its going to end soon ...if you follow whats happening with college football and basketball...On behalf of the USC football and basketball athletes the National College Players Association filed an unfair labor practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board against USC, Pac-10 and the NCAA back in Jan of 2022. The NCPA argued that college athletes should be considered employees and not Student-Athletes. The Los Angeles Region on Dec 15, 2022 agreed with the NCPA and the final ruling is coming soon and will change the landscape of NIL and once again the landscape of college football.

I agree. They are not preparing for draft they sitting at home watching the game. You don’t see Bama players sitting out. That’s what seperates them from us
