Nice! You can hear the drums from Tiger Band prominently in the audio clip. I was a freshman trumpet player in Tiger Band at that game, and we started playing Tiger Rag as soon as the Ole Miss kicker missed the field goal that would have put the game out of reach for LSU. We played continuously over and over until Davis caught the TD, then finished after the PAT.

I had a chemistry class with Davis that year; and got friendly with him. He lived off that play for the rest of his career!!

I remember listening to that game, and to this day I believe that was the loudest I've ever heard Tiger Stadium.

Listened to many a game with my parents when I was a kid back in the 70's and John Ferguson will always be the Voice of the LSU Tigers as far as I'm concerned.

I had one room in my house in Maryland where if I stood the radio upside down, I could barely pick up wwl.... when I lived in Michigan, I had to sit in the car to pick the game up..sometimes// JF was worth the effort

I've been here since 1986; I couldn't catch WWl here,so I had to buy a short wave radio, and I'd listen to WRNO Worldwide fading in and out. Sometimes, all you could hear was a South American station instead.

My Grandmother had old AM radio and I would have to set it up in our living room in order to get the game. Saturday nights as a kid I was glued to that radio and Tiger football.

Great link. Thank you for sending it out and I hope many got to hear it again. With today's rules, the Tiger bench coming on the field to celebrate would have had Jackson kicking from 15 yards farther back.

the second link is about 11 min. in length and includes the last drive or two (i forget). anyway, you get ferguson's "...it's pandemonium in Tiger Stadium" after jackson's boo

FERGUSON - "Charles White gains a few yards on the outside again." "It's gonna be 2nd and 3." I'll never forget that game in 1979 vs. USC. Heartbreaker I tell ya... a real heartbreaker.

Typical JF call:

"Alexander takes the hand off at the 30,he's at 35, 40, 45 and their going to spot it the 36".

"Lions is back to pass, it's caught at the 30, to the 20, 10, 5, touchdown, Kentucky leads 6 nothing"

Use to confuse me and crack me up at the same time.

i am 53. i remember riding with my Dad listening to the games. Dad would almost run off the rode trying to figure out what JF was talking about. "About a fifteen yard loss on the attempted interception..."

The band was always heard on those broadcasts back then, during a drive you could hear them. Giving myselg goosebumps thinking about those old games.

JF also used to do Saints preseason games for awhile
