If These were The Gorilla Ball Days, Romero, Coomes & Templet would be batting more.

Except they didn't swing the hot bats.

yes they did. the composite bats they used preceded the BBCOR bats used now and were very hot, which is why they made the switch to BBCOR bats.

God those bats were so awesome. They had a barrel as big as your head and were as light as a feather. Except for the gold excalibur Furnis swung.

BBCOR bats are not like swinging a wood bat. Swinging a wood bat is better than swinging a BBCOR bat

Most college baseball players would disagree. Summer collegiate wood bat league power numbers disagree as well.

The sweet spot is smaller on a wooden bat

I played college ball for three years and can tell you the majority of players I played with/against preferred swinging wood

I agree that the exit speeds are similar but when you combine the bigger sweet spot size for bbcore. Most players I know prefer bbcore.
And their stats back this up as well. Most of these players avg would be similar but their power numbers would plummet.

My sons played D1 as well and their preference is BBcore as well as most of their teammates. They enjoyed hitting bp with wood but bbcore was more consistent due to sweet spot size.

The games LSU has played this year have all been really warm, ball is carrying early this year.

Thanks for that insight genius
I'm pretty sure everyone here that is even slightly interested in LSU baseball is well aware of the difference in the bats

I've seen posters comparing Deichmann's HR to previous HRs, but I haven't seen anyone downplaying it. The whole point of the comparison is to show how impressive Deichmann's HR really was because of the bat he uses.

For those that can remember 1997, I hope this team can have it's version of Brandon Larson and the success of that year.

A lot of people forget that they also shrunk the bats an 1/8 of an inch at the same time they changed the drop ratio.

no, those bats were warm, but definitely not hot.
i was finishing high school ball in '96.

damn near anyone could launch one nearly 400' with the bats we had then.
they had a 2-3/4" barrel and were drop 5s and then all absolutely exploded off of them.

by the time Dean and Schimpf were here, they were 2-5/8" barrels and drop 3s.
yeah you could still give it a ride, but nothing like the mid 90s.

there is a reason that '97 team hit twice as many fingers as the '09 team.

I'm not going to pretend to be an expert, but I've heard rumors of the composite bats of '08 and '09 launching balls up to 120 mph. "If" this is true I'd say they are in the same class as the late 90's bats.

On a different note, does anyone think CPM will go after a few more big sluggers in recruiting classes because of the new ball? I do think the difference in flight is slightly noticeable.
