Wearing a cap during a song is disrespectful? I think not.
Well there is the problem, you think it is a song, those of us who have served think it is a prayer, a memory of those "Brave" who did not come home. Do I think it ought to be mandatory, no, but it is SHAMEFUL.

This is my favorite rant topic. I've debated it many times in the past but I don't have the time to do it today unfortunately. Hope someone else picks up my slack.

I get what you're saying, and you make a good point, but whether it's a song, or a prayer (which I get), what does a baseball cap have to do with anything?
One cannot pray with a baseball cap on? Can you point me to where that is in the Bible?
I just don't get the leap you are making when you say someone who doesn't take their hat off doesn't respect the men and women who fought for our country... do you not see where you are making a huge leap there from Point A to Point B?

Yeah I was walking back to the seats when they started playing and there was a crowd of women pushing past everyone in the openings while we stoop for the national anthem

I didn't know we lived in Afghanistan. Forced patriotism is what's "un-American", not leaving a hat on.

If you need me to explain this to you, you understand much less than I gave you credit for.

It's not a prayer thing... I thought it was common knowledge to remove your hat out of respect. I've never noticed this problem in alex box. Just sayin

No explaining necessary ... it was a yes or no question. I'm under the impression based on what you are saying, that God will not listen to me if I'm wearing a cap while talking to him ... Right?

You're missing the point. You can go to church on Sunday morning wearing cutoff jean shorts and a wife beater if you want, and it's great that you're in God's house, but you should want to show a little bit more respect that that (if it's within your means of course). It's disrespectful to not remove your hat, especially when it is SUCH a simple action to do. It all comes down to respect, IMO.

Forced patriotism isn't patriotism, it is fear.

specifically how is it disrespectful? Wouldn't displaying a matted down, oily comb-over during a song that honors our fallen soldiers be more disrespectful?

It's the context in which the anthem is played that impels people to show reverence. Not the actual song.
If you're walking towards the stadium with your friends to go to the game, and you hear someone playing the national anthem on their stereo at a tailgate, the majority of individuals wouldn't think twice about stopping, taking off their hat, and waiting until the song had concluded.
However, the granduer of the anthem being singularly played at a major sporting event commands respect. Not because of the anthem itself, but because of the setting in which it is played.
So no, I don't take off my hat. And I don't place my hand over my chest, either.

So tell me Rantards, is it still mandatory to remove them or am I clinging to some old-school shite my pops taught me?
You know, sometimes our elders have some wisdom we need to hold on to. I realize that we are so advanced and our values so refined these days, but sometimes you know, the older people just get it and we don't.
Hell yeah.... Removing one's hat and showing respect for this country during our national anthem is the very least people can do, and if they don't, then I lose every ounce of respect for them as a mouth breather.
