He's under contract through 2021. Wait until after next season, and then discuss a possible extension. Also. any extension should include a much lower buyout clause.

Cant wait to see rankings for the offense finally crack 100 next season. It will be glorious. Extend the man with the plan! He will earn it!

Yeah I don’t get it. You only extend a coach If you’re worried about them possibly leaving once their contract is up. Where is he going to go?

He has to be able to recruit freshmen and sophomores and if the decision on whether to extend or not was delayed 10 months, until the end of the 2019 season, there would not be enough time for him to make up the ground he lost on those players.

Schools will negatively recruit against LSU if the head coach isn't under contract for more than 3 years. Saban uses this tactic very often.

Exactly, Saban doesn’t really have anything to sell at Alabama. As long as we keep our guard up, and the coach is under contract for the requisite number of years, losing players to him will not be an issue.

People can't make a thread without saying anything that has to do with Bama. LSU fans are sickening lol

Saban negatively recruited LSU when Pete Jenkins was the d-line coach because he was old and about to retire while trying to recruit high school d-linemen to come to LSU, so....

Reward for a job well done and to instill sense of commitment/stability for incoming recruits. Easy to see

No, dipshit. You always have to have a winning coach inked for at least 4-5 years so that he can fight the recruiting battle with all of his bullets. Orgeron deserves the extension at this point. He was in a NY6 bowl and finished in the top 10. His roster is loaded next year. His 2019 class is going to finish in the top 3-5. His 2020 class is already sitting at #2 with 11 commits and some really big fish keeping an eye on the program. This is merely part of playing the game these days.

This talk about extending him for recruiting could have a sliver of truth to it however how did he recruit a few months ago when he was only contracted through 2021?

You dont allow a mediocre coach to hold you hostage with recruits. Yes he exceeded expectations this year. I’ll give him that but we werent near a west championship. We lost 3 games. Wouldve preferred to see us start competing with Bama(scoring more than the Citadel is a start) then lets talk extension. Too late now. Guess I just need to shut up and get behind the guy!

The reason that it works is that the words are coming from Nick Saban, not because of the contract.

He's winning championships and we're not. It has shite to do with a damn contract.

The answer being fed to us is that recruits won’t sign if O isn’t extended through 2024.

The real answer is because Alleva needs to capitalize on the fact that O was his pick (remember “I am the search”?) and by extending O it keeps alleva safe because he knows whenever O gets fired, he won’t be picking his replacement because he will he in the unemployment line with him.

It’s not like anyone is going to take him. There is no reason to extend his contract. This is so stupid.

Schools will negatively recruit because Orgeron is our coach, and he thinks an offense from 2004 is cutting edge.

You’re going to get people who, even if he won the natty last year, wouldn’t want to give him an extension just bc he’s a “DL coach” and a “shrimp boat captain”. He did an awesome job, brought in a damn good class last year and is working on anther damn good class this year. Recruits like his system and are buying in, give him the money

Finishing #6 in the rankings with a NY6 bowl win will almost always result in a contract extension, regardless of the school. Can't believe some of you mouth breathers don't understand this.

Pete Jenkins wasn’t even designated as an off campus recruiter while on staff because he was, in fact, old and about to retire. No one had to point that out to defensive line recruits, we did it on our own.
