I stopped watching ESPN a long time ago except for the games themselves. I even fast forward through their little pre-game promos. They should just go ahead and put the Disney princesses on as talking heads and be done with it.

Wow...pretty powerful stuff. I tend to think LSU is a wee bit higher on the pecking order than you may give us credit for, but in terms of realizing that if you expect to get your fulfillment from waiting to have LSU stroked by national talking heads, you'll go to bed frustrated nightly. If you're an LSU fan and you can;t enjoy this type of season WITHOUT ESPN blowing LSU left and right, than you may want to find another thing to do with your Fall in 2012 and beyond...

I think we're right on the cusp of being perceived as a big time "traditional power." '58 gives us enough historical cache that if we win our 4th this year, there will be really no doubt.

What a sad note. Enjoy life, there is media conspiracy against LSU. What is important in the media is to get exposure and LSU is getting plenty of it. Other schools try and wish their are the subjects of discussion for a fraction of the time that LSU is.

Oh, me neither. I don't think he's talking about us, though.

perception over reality is unfortunate at least for me in this case.

At no point did he suggest this, you know that, right? He simply stated that there are favorites in the media and that, currently, LSU is not one of them. To deny that is silly.

I hear ya. I learned to accept and use it to my advantage years ago. I act like an idiot so people don't expect much out of me, then bam, I'm the greatest thing since sliced cheese.

2) LSU's opponents never lose to LSU because LSU is better, they lose because of mistakes made by the opponent.

But who causes them to make these mistakes?

My take on it is that those schools you mentioned, USC, Notre Dame, Alabama, etc all had decades where they dominated football gathering in 2-3 NC within a particular decade or decades. They developed a rep for being tough even though they may have had a decade here or there where they sucked, the perceived impression is that they will be strong again. So the least amount of evidence to that perception is flaunted by the media.

LSU has never dominated in such a manner till the last decade or so. We win 2 more championships in the 2010 decade (4-5 total over 20 yrs) and they will start playing up LSU with the likes of Nebraska and Miami, both smaller markets similar to Louisiana Markets. Success cant be taken for granted. This is a pivotal era in LSU football. These last two decades will determine how LSU is perceived in future decades

Becoming a "national media darling powerhouse" is something that takes years of success on the big stage. Once that label is applied, it's very difficult to remove (see Notre Dame). LSU's been one of the top 4-5 programs in the country since 2001. That's a 11 year period, which is a drop in the bucket in terms of the 100+ year history of CFB. We had fleeting moments of glory prior to that but nothing to the level we're experiencing right now. It's like Florida basketball, they won 2 titles recently but does anyone consider their program on par with Duke, Kentucky, etc? If we keep winning perceptions will change, in the meantime enjoy the ride!

Watch the games on mute, & listen to the radio broadcast during the game.

Started doing this year.

In the 60's & 70's Penn ST went undefeated 3 times & rated only 2nd, 3rd, & 5th by the AP & UPI because they were not one of the Big Boys. In 73 they were 12-0 & beat LSU in the Orange Bowl but the AP & UPI put them 5th in the final poll.

I knew why then, it was bias towards the Okl, Tx, Neb, Ala, USC, ND, OhSt, & Mich of the football world.

I love that we have won against the previous Big Boys in the last decade.

Despite what Miami & Fl won in the 80's, 90's,& 2000's they in my mind were not one of the Big Boys.

I'm not taking anything away from Miami & Fl accomplishments, I'm just old enough to remember when they were not relevant, whereas the Big Boys mentioned have been most of my life.

I love playing & beating the traditional powers. I wish USC were undefeated this year in order to add them to the list that we have beat in this new era.

I've heard the Penn State story many times. If a BCS system existed back then with a SOS factor, Penn State would have a few more titles.

Sad part is, not much has changed with the AP since then. Same old tired BS. Like I said, now they can blame it on the BCS, even though it is the media who picks and chooses who goes with their propoganda.

Man, I can't wait to see this board after Gameday tomorrow. The whining about the Pro Bama/Saban crap they will spew will be epic. If I didn't have something to do with my kids tomorrow morning, I'd watch Gameday just for the laugh.

Nothing cracks me up more than petulant children whining on national TV for everyone to see.
