In Brandon's case, when he's faced with pressure, it should be pounded in his head to run run run. Take the sack first, throw only if you've got a sure play.

Not sure why anyone isn't mentioning Clapp on the last play-- the RDE came thru untouched...Clapp blocked nobody....

....the comeback routes timing on the outside was destroyed..... Harris had to make a decision if he could escape or if he should throw.

Unfortunately he should of thrown it away because he wasn't set and didn't have a good look at what had developed. But that play chaos started with Clapp.

Yeah that is the biggest concern how bad the offensive line looked. I think given time Brandon can be good enough to win some games, but not if he is feeling pressure he loses his composure and reverts to bad mechanics. Once again it doesn't look like we have the players on the offensive line to win big in this league, or dominant opponents.

this is the problem

Scheme and making your qB think too much versus playing the game

say what you want, the kid had time to throw (after he alluded yet another guy the OL whiffed on) and a wide open receiver.

when it came down to the end game I knew we could only win if BH brought us back. the game was on his shoulders at that point. it happens in dozens of football games every week; the QB has to direct a game winning drive. all we needed, in our potential ddrive was a FG while many others need a TD.

BH failed to direct his team to the game winning drive. hey, i'm not dissing him because it never should have come down to that BUT it did and it will again. I hope he shakes it off and begins to direct drives. you can't have successful drives in college ball without completing key passes.

We can over analyze this all we want but I think he just caved under the pressure and made a tough mistake.

Its as simple as this...

THIS IS THE PROBLEM!

The easier way to say this is "which I agree with whole hardily";

Harris is not a pro-style QB so quit trying to make him something he is not and will take way too long to try and convert him too. Harris is a duel threat QB so start making him act like one!!!

Been saying that for the past 24months!!!

How big was that weird sequence right before halftime where they went for it on fourth down on the LSU side of the field? Essentially gave them three points and lost by two.

Interesting take yes; but not buying it. He threw the pick because he pressed and didn't set his feet to make the throw. He did it all game. In his defense he was under almost constant pressure which causes most QBs to lose their mechanics even pros

Dude, you are playing with fire with this bunch thinking that the opposition was better than we thought....Big 10....inferior.....WE big bad SEC.

Wisconsin routinely beats up on offenses like they did to LSU. Nobody cared to look at this before placing their bets. Look at their schedule from last year, look at the scores and look at the stats.

LSU needs help in the pass game, but going up against the top scoring defense in all of college football. #4 against the rush and #7 in passing D. This was going to be a tough out. Should have thought about that instead of why Les was not going to allow the players to do the Lambeau Leap.....it was all there on the NCAA site.

Wisconsin(11.5 dog) in what was a de facto home game. That was an easy bet to make.

So basicly, what you are saying is that he has to fit into the system. Not the system fit to him.

Square peg, round hole????

I cant believe the mentality of the original post its incredulous. He is a QB of a major college football program not a HS Freshman. First of all, LSU should have run 2-3 plays clocking the ball and using their TO to set up game winning FG (any coach with a brain would have done that thus taking the ball out of Harris hand) Second, Harris with any ounce of experience and poise either A runs for 15 yds. and goes out of bounds or B Throws the ball away - it was first down folks....From a coaching and QB FUBAR the combination was embarrassing

Brandon Harris threw that ball because that's how he practiced that play over and over and over again and it has been hammered into his head not to deviate from the play design

Sounds like Miles just doesn't utilize talent properly.

Harris should be encouraged to run the ball if nothing is open or if a play breaks down. If Miles doesn't want this to happen, then stop recruiting scrambling QBs. You have to change their mentality and turn them into a completely different type of QB and in turn they become too tentative and unsure of what to do.

OP, I'm with you. Look at the game winning drive Jennings led against Arky. We knew we had a talent back there, until he came back as a sophomore, worse than the year before. If Les touches a raw, unpolished QB, its O V.

The kid had talent. Miles and Cameron ruined him. Now he is too shell shocked to recover. He needs to be benched and Miles needs to be fired.... yesterday.

What I don't understand is why doesn't he run?

On that play he could have run for positive yardage... BUT he is worried about NOT making a mistake instead of using his own instincts.....

If you focus on that one play, the holes in your narrative are: it was FIRST DOWN , he had rolled away from pressure,, there was a over a minute left, and they were.only about 12 yards from glory.

No. reason in the world to force that throw- it's not like the interception was a circus catch. if he was conditioned to "not run", throw it in the stands. QB brain fart. Period.

OP, I've never taken your theory into perspective before. I'm going to agree with you for the most part. Harris was anazing in that comeback even though we fell short. The Auburn was not much of a surprise to me given his performance against Miss. State, and the overall expectations of him. Big stage for a young man in his position. I don't believe the coaching staff handled it appropriately and he has suffered from it. I've given my 2 cents on Harris plenty it hasn't been good. I don't put ALL the blame on the coaches, but Miles and Cam have severely handicapped Brandon's potential.

When he made that throw, the first rational thought I had was that they have him so fricking wired and scared to deviate, that he no longer playing football. He's the dog that you reach out to pet, yet it cowards in fear.

This guy made a fantastic athletic play to escape the rush, then freezes when he has open ground to run, and throws it to the other team. His thought was not on the throw, his brain was elsewhere remembering his commands. We all know under normal conditions, he wouldn't make that throw directly to the other team with no teammates within 5 yds.

They just don't let our guys play football anymore.
