The interception that lost the game

The immediate knee jerk reaction is to blame Brandon Harris, bench him, and give someone else a shot. But as we take a step back and look at this particular play, deeper reasoning of why this throw was made begins to surface.
Jump back to Brandon's first appearance. A young, raw qb with tremendous talent stepped on the field against Miss. State and nearly completed a miraculous comeback. He provided a spark that was much needed on this team.
Why was he able to do that then but not now? Answer: Because he was still very green in the system, relied heavily on his own talents & decision making, and hadn't yet been baptized into LesMilesism.
Fast forward to now, he's been programmed into a robot that is told to do one thing and to execute execute execute. They're telling him, it's ok Brandon, just do this and it's a "win".
THIS IS THE PROBLEM!
Les has stated over and over again..."We need Brandon to make the plays we ask him to make". In fact, after that Miss State game, Brandon Harris did not get to start the next game because Les Miles did not have confidence Brandon wasn't going to follow the script exactly how it was drawn up.
So this is where we are now: Brandon Harris threw that ball because that's how he practiced that play over and over and over again and it has been hammered into his head not to deviate from the play design. A younger Brandon Haris would have fallen back on his instincts instead of making that throw.
It makes sense to me that Mett was able to thrive in this Les Miles style system because he knew he had to make the throw because of his lack of scrambling ability and his instincts went through his arm. Brandon Harris has a different set of instincts because he can rely on the ability to run.
Les and Cam need to tell him... This is on you Brandon. Here's the play call if it's there. If it's not, it's up to you to get us the first down.
All of this.... "He needs to make the throws we tell him to" need to be hung on a fence, shot, and burned in a barrel with gasoline.
I truly believe if Les Miles would change this philosophy and maybe even schedule a few public speaking classes, we'd not be having the type of conversations we are about him.

I was about to jump on you....but you may have somewhat of a point. Damn it
Still a terrible throw though.

What I don't understand is why doesn't he run? He had more than a few open lanes on Saturday, and he can elude defenders. Does Les just tell him not to do it?

I agree for the sake of speculating. But sadly, we can never know the truth.

There is a lot fail in this post so I'll just point out the obvious to you. Brandon started the next game at Auburn and was terrible got banged up and didn't play again.

We can over analyze this all we want but I think he just caved under the pressure and made a tough mistake. Everyone had such high expectations for this team and he felt he needed to make a play and got caught up in the moment instead of making the smart play.

It is the same mentality when we run the ball. I think that Les actually knows the 3rd run in a series will be a failure, but its what they practice, so its what they do. I think he literally prays for breaks/miracles.
Didn't a smart guy few years back say something like, insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results?

geesh dude. I don't know what your point was.
The interception at the end is actually ther least thing that BH did that bothers me.
If the slow decision making, the floating of passes to guys wide open, the over throws, the lack of any type of audible that I couyld tell, the lack of touch on many passes.
Certainly not all his fault, the INT is what it is. Should not have even been in that situation. Should have already locked the game up.

BECAUSE!!!! If he runs, its takes away the % of pass plays Miles can refer to in the postgame presser when he says we had a want to toss it around the field!!!!

You had me until you said:
It should have read - The COACH that lost the game

Wrong. It was New Mexico State and he didn't start. Try again.

Nice try but he rolled out of there with the intent to just get rid of the ball.
He blew that one for sure. Robot or not, the coach will always tell you NOT to throw to the guy with a different helmet on.

Touché you are right he came in after AJ couldn't hit the broadside of a barn and accounted for 5 scores in a row. Auburn was the next week.

Same could be said about Boutte's hit.

Was driving home last night listening to the radio and someone made a GREAT point.
It seems the reason we have so many QB issues is because, after Jaret Lee, Miles has become scared of his own QBs and no longer coaches them on how to win a game. He just focuses on coaching them to NOT LOSE the game. So in crunch time, when we need them to be at their best, they have no idea how to do it and can only remember what the coaches have told them NOT to do.
That recipe leads to failure.

quote:Honestly, I think it's because the coaches are scared shitless of him getting hurt and in this case, they're probably justified.

Interesting take yes; but not buying it. He threw the pick because he pressed and didn't set his feet to make the throw. He did it all game. In his defense he was under almost constant pressure which causes most QBs to lose their mechanics even pros.
