Thank you to those who wait their turn and COMPETE

I would like to give a shout out to the following football players who waited their turn and competed:
Duke Riley, Deion Jones, Donnie Alexander, Darrel Williams, Rickey Jefferson, Danielle Hunter, Ron Brooks, Matt Flynn and Ed Paris
Thank you for playing your entire football career for the purple and gold. Thank you for providing excellent competition and being a great TEAM player. Too many athletes these days fall under the "participation trophy" status. They can't take adversity and competition and they will always have the "me first" attitude.
Hell, Derrius Guice is arguably the best player on LSU's roster this coming season and he was knocking heads off during kickoffs his freshmen year. He knew he was going to be behind LF7 and Darrel Williams to start, but he still wanted that chance to compete and make a difference for the LSU football team. That's the guys I want on my team.
Duke Riley and Deion Jones have similar stories. They are both excellent competitors who waited their turn and had great senior campaigns and great success in the NFL draft because of that.
Just burns me up to see INDIVIDUALS leave a program because they LOST a position and it wasn't GIVEN to them (i.e. Saivion Smith).

Do we know that this is why he left, or are you just assuming this is why he left? If the latter, I would err on the side of caution for bashing a player for his decision without knowing why that decision was made.

playing time isn't the reason, frick

He loves LSU, but he has other things going on that got him to come to the decision to leave.

Wherever he ends up transferring to, will be very telling. Until then I guess we won't know the reason.

Are you that blind? Toliver, Stevens, Delpit, and Greedy Williams all crossed him up on the outside. He slid over to Nickel in the spring and was very upset about that.

If he's not hurt then it's either lack of work ethic or afraid of competition 99/100 times. Safe assumption

Well considering the NFL is his destination, he will most likely go to a lower division to play right away, and then jump back up to D1 so he can have at least two years of film. That makes the most sense regardless of his situation here.

You're missing one very famous, or infamous if you prefer, one who waited. He didn't have to wait till his Sr year, but we all know he had to wait anyway....

Do tell.

This isn't a Saivion Smith thread. This is an appeciation thread for those that stayed and competed. I'm just using him as an example. There are a number of athletes that can be included, but I rather not name them to take away from the ones that matter.

sounds like an immature, passive aggressive swipe at Smith. It may truly be in his best interest to go elsewhere.

Your timing is impeccable.

Are your referring to Kendall Beckwith? The guy who played in every game his true freshman year then took over as starting MLB sophomore year? That's waiting?

Great thread. I agree 100%. Just hope this doesn't turn into another bash Coach O thread before he coaches his first season.

Perhaps you shouldn't have named Smith w/o knowing the reason for his decision.
