Verrett is a good physical corner, but let's be honest. His arse and his TCU mates got away with a lot of physical play against Landry and Beckham that could easily have been called PI. He himself bumped Beckham with physical play a couple of times before the ball got to him.

That's like saying Keenan Lewis didn't shut down Desean Jackson in the Saints/Eagles playoff game since DJ went off after Lewis left the game being hurt. B/c, as a team, DJ caught 3 passes for 55 yards but none being against Lewis.

That's a really horrible comparison.

That's a big no shitter. Refs weren't calling anything. IMO we lost to TD's with PI in the endzone

Same here but fighting with this crowd is a losing cause!

How many attempts? Right-you don't know. OBJ was not shut down. Ergo....

As i stated earlier in this thread, if OBJ only caught 1 ball for 16 yards vs. 7-10 plays where they were matched up, then he did shut him down.

People looking at the box score and seeing OBJ catching 5 balls for 118 yards is not indicative of his performance against Jason Verrett.

I, however, do not know if he did or did not shut him down. I have no clue how many times they were matched up. I'm just providing a simple fact that you can't judge it by simply looking at the box score...WHICH IS TRUE

What do yall want him to say??

A reporter asked him, pre draft, how good does he think he can be? Whats he supposed to say? That hes not that good?

And OBJ didnt do anything against him. Thats shutting him down. Hes responsible for the guy that he is guarding. Hes not responsible for who the other guys were guarding. When he was on OBJ, OBJ didnt do much.

Very good CB and love the attitude that he has.

Can someone actually post stats that say how many times Verrett went up against OBJ instead of just throwing random facts out.

Did that happen? How do you know where in the progression OBJ was?

It shows he was not shut down. That's a good day for a receiver. You're going to just assume he was shut down by one guy, yet did well against everyone else?

He was not shut down on the night/day...period.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not Jason Verrett shut him down.

How is this so hard to comprehend?

All I'm saying is it's silly to say that you shut someone down if you didn't cover him the whole game and he ended up with over 100 yards. Cover him the whole game and hold him to 1 or 2 catches and I'll say you've shut someone down.

And yes, I know he was probably led on by the reporter to say something like this.

You mentioned that the box score isn't enough info to determine if OBJ was shut down, but the info above (even if true) isn't enough to prove he was shut down.

Even if they were matched up 7-10 times, how many times was OBJ the primary target? How many of those plays turned into hot reads because of a blitz? How many times was Mett sacked?

10-7 match ups could easily have been only a couple of opportunities for Verette to make a play.

Using Gugich and KG's logic, the TCU noseguard shut down Beckham that game. He didn't catch any balls while being covered by him.

All i got from that video was landry owned whoever he was against. But it still doesnt tell the story. like others have said, we throw to only 2 guys, so if we threw to whoever verrett wasnt covering, then obviously our gameplan worked. I still wouldnt be blabbing about shutting down a player in a loss though, which is what they seem to do a lot now when they actually play someone decent. I still cant believe the idiots on here want Patterson over Miles.

I just looked at OBJand Jarvis Landrys game film from TCU.

OBJ had 2 catches for ~20 yards and Verrett was called for a PI on one play in the end zone.

Jarvis had zero catches against Verrett but was also rarely matched up against him.

Verrett batted down two possible TDs for sure.

I came away really impressed with Verrett I'm not gonna lie. You can obviously see he gets away with a lot of contact though
