Give me an example of a true career ending injury in today's game (spinal fracture?). The likelyhood of this happening is so small to worry about it would be like working from home to avoid a possible car wreck. You just can't live your life/play the game like that.

Romo, while only a QB, came back from a broken back, Peyton something similar.

Gurley, Matheiu, A Peterson all tore ACLs. All are still the best at what they do

Not playing when you can't leave early is not the same as leaving early for the NFL. It is quite literally the definition of quitting on your team, as you are not going anywhere else to play.

Not playing the game is not loving the game. NFL GMs would definitely frown upon fournette sitting out.
You think NFL GMs want their rookie salary running back not going hard or taking himself out bc he's worried about his second contract in 4 years? Or do they want a guy who loves to play and knows ACL tear/broken collarbone or not he will still be elite.

Lattimore was obviously never the same after his injury. He tore every ligament in his knee.

and the injury thing to me is the lesser issue but more to do with the lifespan of a RB

that would be the justification to me

Lattimore was a great back. He ran extremely high though, if he sat out his junior year it was just a matter of time before it happened in the NFL. It happened to him twice in his 3 years in college?

He was still drafted top 3 rounds and given retirement with San Fransisco too btw.

For every guy that doesn't recover their are 10+ that recover fine.

Name me 1 LSU player that isn't playing in the NFL because of a pre NFL injury? (There might be one)
Hell Delvin Breaux is starting in the NFL after wondering if he'd ever play again after HS.

Chad jones is the only player I can think of, and his injury was in a car wreck. So driving has derailed more LSU NFL careers the last decade then the game of football? someone should tell Leonard

like I said, the injury thing isn't the main point in all of this IMO

Well agree to disagree. I strongly disagree with you that sitting out would be taken as anything but a negative by any franchise.

Yes it would be unfortunate if he were to be injured his Jr year.

Look at the NFL though, Trent Richardson will never get that big second contract that every one thought was a given coming out of college. What would skipping his Jr year at Bama have done besides take away from his life experience. On the other hand Peterson is still the best back in the league at 30 years old.
If you are a guy that will last you are a guy that will last. If you aren't you just never were, people are just built differently. That one 12 game college season isn't going to be the reason you are or aren't a decade NFL back. All sitting out guarantees is you miss out on the experience of that last year of college and in no way guarantees (or even gives you better odds IMO) a long NFL career.

Age is a factor more than most realize when talking about "wear and tear." How your body recovers at certain ages is genetic. If at 28 you can't stay fresh for a whole season it doesnt mean if you had 200 instead of 300 carries at 20 years old you would be fine lol... People age differently.

They can't have it both ways. If they think he's so good then where was his invite to New York? They snubbed him. That's fine, but don't be a little bitch now that he's about to show you what's up.

For those asking about a player who basically quit and for whom it did not hurt him, Dez Bryant.

Dez was suspended early his junior by the NCAA, still went in the first round, played great and got a huge second contract. The only reason Dez didn't go higher in the first round was due to off the field concerns specifically, that he was a head case. That concern would have been there regardless of what kind of junior season he had at Ok State. Remember, Dez was the player who a scout asked if his mother was a prostitute.

Fournette has none of those concerns. If he sits out this year, he stays healthy, signs with an agent for cash in the bank, goes to a camp to prepare him for the combine, has a great combine and goes in the top-5 next year.

All Fournette can do in college is get hurt.

LOL, Dez had no choice but to sit out! You think he sits out if he's not suspended by the NCAA? I don't. He didn't make that decision, it was made FOR HIM.

Maurice Clarett and that WR from USC (the one who sat out a year and failed in the NFL) both think LF sitting out this year is a bad idea.

One of the reasons I strongly prefer college football to the NFL is that the running game MATTERS in college football. And that's something Wisconsin and LSU have in common; we win when we run the ball successfully.

Play action and the OL winning in the trenches. RB's in the NFL have to catch the ball, block, and break a few runs to keep the defense honest. Or that's what it looks like when I watch an NFL game.

So there's no way any RB - no matter how good - could afford to slack off and still get a high draft. I'm sure LF knows that and is dying to get back on the field and prove it.

Mike Williams, WR from usc, went in the top-10. Maurice Clarett was never the prospect Fournett is and he still went in the 3rd after not playing for two years.

It only takes on GM to fall in love, how many GMs do you think already love Fournett? All he can do is hurt himself by playing.

Dez was suspended for lying to the ncaa and was a 1st round draft pick. NFL doesn't care about anything other than if you can play.

Including college injuries (Todd Gurley). So if you like playing college football, play. The NFL isn't going anywhere.

If some freak injury were to happen (head/neck) in one of those 12-15 games of college that's unfortunate and what insurance is for. Regardless you have 64 NFL games including 16 preseason games until your second contract (payday) anyway. You have to just play ball and not live your life scared.

Maybe Delvin Breaux should have taken off his senior year of highschool since he already had a scholarship offer from LSU. "All he can do is get hurt" at that point right?
Dude had one of those freak accidents you rarely see, wasn't sure he'd every play again. Now he's a starting corner in the League.

But why get injured before you get if you can avoid it? Gurley wasn't hurt before the season started, Fournett was.

The moment this ankle is reaggravated, Miles should do the smart thing and shut him down for good.

It's a minor ankle sprain man... It'll happen to him 5 more times in the NFL.

It's a routine surgery these days to completely repair a bad one if that happens. No where near an ACL. Even those aren't that big of a deal these days. Like I've said a million times: Peterson has had 2 and led the NFL in rushing, Matheiu has had 2 and received the largest safety contract in the league, and Gurley obviously still went top 10 and played great this year.

Injuries are a part of football and completely random. Fournette could just as easily sit out this entire season and tear his knee preseason game one. If he is who we think he is he'll still be doing well in the league for multiple contacts whether he sits out or not, and whether he gets injured or not (college or NFL)

Tyrone Prothro at Bama and Deandre Brown at Southern Miss. Makes me cringe thinking about injuries like that though, they're definitely rare and some guys come back from gruesome leg breaks
