He should have sat out last year, he should sit out this year.
He should probably be under contract but sit out his first couple of seasons in the NFL too so he can guarantee he reaches retirement with the league.
He should then never practice or play pre-season and just play in games.

All this injury scare stuff is ridiculous...
-Todd Gurley tore his ACL his JR year at UGA, first round pick, great rookie year
-Adrian Peterson led the NFL in rushing last season at what 30 years old? With 2 torn ACLs in the League, and missing time at OU with a broken collar bone.
-Tyrann Matheiu just tore his second ACL in 3 years and was made the highest paid safety in the NFL

If you play football injuries will happen. If you are good you will keep playing and be fine.

Seriously? Just like how nola rallied around the Saints after Katrina, BR will do the same with LSU this season (not comparing disasters before you go there), and Fournette is THE beacon for this team. He's going to feel it's his duty to come through for the community.

And no chance in hell he'd sit out after what BR is going through.

The flooding in LA has nothing to do with a hypothetical decision to sit or play for the year.

LF7 is a figurehead in the state, and even if you don't think it's the best decision for him, I feel that if he had ANY inclination to sit out, the flooding would kill that.

You seriously think that a guy that sat out of football for a complete year would not fall in the draft? He is already going to naturally fall in the draft from where he is now just from some QB's having good years and jumping ahead of him. Fournette wouldn't fall out of the draft or to the end of the draft but he would end up somewhere at the end of the first round to second round if he sat out his year as opposed to being a top 5 pick right now.

Dedication to the game, heart, effort. All things that would be considered and brought up in the war room. You play you don't have those questions. Before you bring up Clowney again remember he played his last year and is at a NEED position in the NFL.

Who would want to sit out when they get to play football? It's such a dumb stance. Plus he got that insurance.

I don't. And there is no evidence to prove otherwise.

No way. Absolutely no way this would happen.

Todd Gurley was just picked 10th overall while rehabbing a torn ACL.

Tyrann Matheiu was just made the highest paid safety in the NFL while rehabbing a torn ACL.

The league doesn't give a shite about injuries. If you are good they want you bc you will still be good when you recover. Ask the Vikings
I bet they do give a shite about a guy quitting on his team, or a guy who doesn't love playing the game.

There is no evidence of a guy sitting out a year and keeping the same draft position either. The only time this happens is guys with character flaws but even then those guys get knocked down for not playing a full year also. Mathieu dropped because of his off the field issues but you can't say that him not playing a full year hurt him as well. There is evidence of guys getting injured and still being drafted in the first round. Therefore there is a bigger unknown in sitting out a year than playing and getting injured. Minimizing risk is eliminating the unknown. Playing is eliminating the unknown of not playing so it is a smaller risk.

They do. Not all injuries are created equal.

Is someone leaving early quitting on his team?

And is someone trying to stay healthy and prolong their NFL career not "loving the game"?

I, in no way, think he should sit out, but none of your rationalizations have any merit.

Correct.

I don't think the missing a year has anything to do with it.

There is evidence of the opposite happening too

Therefore there is a bigger unknown in sitting out a year than playing and getting injured.

Definitely. But someone will do it someday and it will be interesting to see how the NFL reacts.

I just think that if the talent is there, the NFL won't care.

Leaving early and not sitting out a year when your team is expecting you to play are 2 separate things. Coaches know what guys are going to leave after 3 years and can recruit to that. A player deciding 2 weeks before the season starts not to play that year is quitting on the team.

If a player comes in says coach I am playing 2 years and then sitting out my junior year to get ready for the pros that is even better because again a coach can recruit to that or better yet stop recruiting that guy because that just seems like a hassle.

Shouldn't McCaffery sit out too then? What about DeShaun Watson?

Hell every kid who could possibly be a 1st round pick should just stop playing until the NFL says they can.

How ridiculous.

This is the most ridiculous shite ever.

They realize Fournette has a huge insurance policy right?

Of course they don't.

And if they do, they still don't get it.

Let the man live his own life. He loves his school, teammates, and head coach as family.

other positions are hard to compare to RBs

RBs have the shortest careers in the NFL by far and even the successful ones fall off a cliff at a certain point

it would make sense for someone looking to maximize their NFL career to limit the number of carries they have prior to that career

He makes some good points but he is dead wrong saying that LF has "done everything he needs to do at LSU". Football is a team sport and LF is a great teammate. LSU hasn't won a championship with LF. This guy seriously underestimates LF's integrity and his loyalty to teammates, the university and LSU fans.
