Talking heads are calling for Fournette to sit out this season

At least one in this article. Of course it's from The Herd.

Nick Wright
And no chance in hell he'd sit out after what BR is going through.

You knew it was coming.
From the moment LSU head coach Les Miles announced in a press conference on Tuesday (2:10 mark) that star running back Leonard Fournette sprained his ankle, is wearing a walking boot and is out for an undetermined period of time, the talking heads instantly began making noise.
When they did, a tired, ridiculous and predictable talking point from pro-focused media took center stage.
Nick Wright
quote:
Bringing success and the national spotlight to his home state school matters to Fournette, and he has proven that time and time again.
So now he's expected to sit out to preserve himself and abandon his community, his teammates and everything he holds dear in order to preserve his own long-term aspirations.
Fournette doesn't think like that, nor should he.
He cares about much more than himself, and we should all applaud him for that, not tell him he's bigger than that.
Plus, can you imagine the NFL draft analysts next February in March if he did sit out after all that's gone on in Baton Rouge this year? They'd have a field day with "selfish Leonard Fournette."
Even if sitting out was a realistic possibility in his mind, he'd have a hard time overcoming that stigma.
And no chance in hell he'd sit out after what BR is going through.

Non discussion. Not even in his thought process. Plus he has insurance from what I understand so he and family are secure.

They did this last year, too...LOL...I guess they'll want Guice next, and look what happened to Brossette, last year...Who's next...?

Agreed, but Sallee is actually talking sense now.

Nick Wright has probably never played a down of football in his life so who cares.

I find the people that say things like that don't have a competitive bone in their body. Competitors want to play ball. They don't care about the risks they just want to do what they do best and what they love to do COMPETE. For all these reporters that write articles for a living and love doing it how would they feel if someone said you can't write an article for a year because you could injure yourself.
ETA: They worry about the wrong group of players also. Guys like Fournette will get their money and their chance based on talent alone as long as he can play the game. The guys that are borderline drafted and undrafted players are the ones that if they get hurt they won't even get their opportunity.

There has to be something better for them to talk about with the season 3 weeks away.

The situation with Lattimore was devastating but you can't base your school/career decision on one case where a great player had his career destroyed because of a freak injury.
But that's easy for me, the spectator, to say.

It's not in his DNA to not compete and play his best.
All he has to do is look at the results of the guys who sat out (Clarrett and Williams) and the many guys who have slept walked through their 3rd year of college, namely Clowney, and how poorly they have played. On the other hand you have a guy like Gurley, who give his all, gets hurt, then still performs at the next level.
Once you decide to stop competing for fear of injury, you are going to lose your edge. Fournette is not capable of not competing.

I mean...I know Fournette would never do it and I would not want him to do it for selfish reasons...
...but from a purely economical standpoint it does and would make sense

Why do people ever bring this up among college players? What college player has ever done it (on purpose)? No college player will sit out their last season just to save themselves for the NFL. Plus Fournette has nothing to worry about with Miles overusing him. Miles doesnt do that (doesnt run a RB for 40+ carries in multiple games back to back basically). He has a nice stable this year so there should be no worry outside of freak injury which once again he has insurance for...
This talking point needs to die, it just shows they have nothing better to talk about.

I don't think it would play with the NFL to sit, but honestly he has so many carries in that body and what he is giving LSU is a gift that far exceeds the scholarship he gets.
I am personally grateful that he loves the University and State. I am excited to see him play.

It's easy for someone that has never played anything at a higher level than JV to say shite like this. These guys aren't wired to sit out of anything. Fournette would practice right now if Les would let him.

I think we definitely can afford to spread out the carries a bit more with Guice, which will help with Fournettes wear-and-tear. If the Heisman is something he really wants as well, and that would be totally up to him, he'll be the same workhorse this season.

No it doesn't. How bad does that look in the eyes of NFL owner's and GM's? Out of sight out of mind also. If Fournette sits out and Chubb, Cook, Mcafferey have great year that is 3 guys that could jump ahead of him in the draft.

Maybe this is common knowledge, but has anyone ever actually sat out a season in order to save themselves for the NFL? Besides Clowney half-assing it?
