Take a step back... how weird is it that Les is just gone

I think with all of our excitement for a fresh start it's semi surreal that Les Miles is no longer apart of this football team. I absolutely 100% believe it was time to move on and I look forward to seeing what Coach O can do with the rest of the season, but Les Miles is gone. Just think about that.
No more quirky/weird sayings at press conferences.
No more weird claps.
No more "mad hatter" persona.
No more leading the tigers out onto the field.
Shits just wild

More refreshing than weird.

Especially when you knew it was coming but the stress levels and frustration were almost unbearable. Yet we made it to this point

Don't believe it until a new coach is permanently hired. Edwin Edwards says hello.

Quite refreshing... and like I said, I'm pumped that he is gone and LSU gets to try some new things. But it's just strange.
ETA: when you think 'LSU Football' it's hard not to think Les Miles, and now he's not a part of LSU football.

I don't understand some of y'all.
You whined and complained for years about the man, now he's no longer associated with the program, yet you still dump on him.
I don't get it.
Yes, it was time for a change but I don't understand these disrespectful posts about the man.
Even if one won't admit it, I guarantee that every Tiger fan was celebrating in January 2008, January 2011.
"haha he clapped funny and ate a blade of grass. He was bad to listen to on the radio so let's just dump on him."
Try to be respectful.

There was a lot of post Katrina full circle Sunday and Monday with Les getting canned and the Saints getting rolled in the dome by the Falcons. It was a pretty sad sports weekend given that coupled with Arnie and Jose passing. Just weird

he's the 7th coach lsu has had since i started playing pop warner in the 3rd grade.
i was around for charlie mac, but a bit young to take it all in.
it'll be different w/o him, but i think that was the idea. wish we'd have done it last year and got herman.

It is refreshing. Like someone said in another thread, I am almost more excited than opening at Lambeaux

I've said it before, but its worth repeating, CLM was perfect for the LSU fan, we are a people that thrive on being excited, whether its being excited because we're happy or upset because we're not happy, normal day to day life drives us crazy, like a crack addict, we're addicted to excitement, CLM was our crack...

It's really weird. I'm 21 and remember Saban vividly but not having Les is just strange. He was the face of the program and everyone knew it.

Some people will ever appreciate the class he brought to the program, city, and university. The man was a great representative for Louisiana, but some people only care about a win even if it meant a decline in our program's reputation.
Look, before i get downvoted into oblivion understand that i was all for him getting fired since last November, but I'm not going to shite all over someone who helped out the community where I lived. He represented the purple and gold very well, and no one can deny that. The game just passed a good man by.

he was a rambling babbling sound bite, we tired of the schick when results didn't meet expectations as unrealistic as they may have been...

Never disagreed with you there. Just said he was a coach with class, even though his public speaking was a bit odd. I'm just saying we all got our wish. He is gone, and i am happy about it. I just dont understand why people comtinue to shite on him because overall he was a great representative for our school and state, on a personal level. Obviously, he wasn't cutting it on a coaching level, though.

LSU can hire a PR person for a lot less than 4 million a year.
So you think his bumbling, rambling was good for the state.
You may be part of the problem if you think Saban winning the National Championship and putting LSU back on the front page of the media is bad.
After eleven years, Miles slowly made LSU irrelevant again.
Great image.

Yeah...it's an odd thing, and that has nothing to do with whether or not you liked him as LSU coach.
It's a funny thing when we bring in what amounts to an outsider to be the head of our program...this thing which has meant so much to all of us for what has likely been most of our lives. We ARE Tigers...but this man is just PAID to be a Tiger. All the purple ties in the world will never REALLY make him one of us, unless he is.
This is and was the same for his predecessor, who was considered a Big 10 guy who felt our of place personally here at first. Truth is, for all he did for many Saban never felt like OUR guy until after the UGA game in 2003 when it was clear to everyone that Tiger Fans hung on his every word. This was illustrated in the post game press conference conducted on the ramp of the PMAC by the Gameday crew. Everyone was cheering while they talked, but as soon as Saban started to speak EVERYONE shut up to listen. It was a moment so surreal that Herbstreit interrupted him to point it out.
Miles was no different. For a long time he wasn't ours...then he was. Maybe it was the "damn fine football team" speech, or perhaps before. These guys who are paid assassins eventually, if we let them, become Tigers. When they almost inevitably move on, it's odd because a guy we once felt was an outsider no longer is, and we feel a loss.
But...same as before, when LSU taps its new head coach, he'll be the outsider looking to make a connection with the fan base and it'll be strange to see. and hopefully one day soon, he'll have his moment where he connects and we adopt him as one of our own.
As always...

I can't lie...I've had this uneasy feeling at times this week as no matter what this move by us is risky. Even though Miles O was atrocious...he was pretty damn good at everything else and brought a secure feel to the program for many years. That's why I think Fisher should be the guy...I really feel he will pick up right where Miles left things, but just bring us a MUCH improved O.
