There's a difference here. You play your schedule out and the East and West Division Champs play in the SEC Championship Game. It's a know factor.

Versus -

You lose a game and are not involved in the SEC Championship Game. You should be shite out of luck!

If any team had a right for a rematch, it should have been Georgia. They won the SEC East and lost a close game in the championship.

However, regardless of the situation, I am not in favor of any rematches. Beat a team once and move on to the next challenger.

Disagree. Per JJ and DeAngelo in post-game interviews they both hinted that we didn't really try the game plan as planned, i.e., go 5 wide like Utah.

Les should've tried that, but it wouldn't have worked. LSU wasn't that kind of team and the QB wasn't gonna know what to do with 4 or 5 receivers.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. LSU football died a little that night. And it was exactly for that reason. Slive and the SEC machine sucked the life out of LSU by lobbying so hard to get Bama back in it. It's the most unfair thing that ever happened in the BCS era. Good riddance.

it will be hard for me to ever forgive slive. slive cheats for al.

there should be a song: the day the music died!

I didn't go to a game this year. I don't believe sec is a fair game. I've seen al cheat for years. I've see the sec cheat for years. I've seen slive cheat for years.

NO ONE likes unfair!
I think the death of music has affected lsu's every loss since that screw job.

I love les and support him x10, but I don't know how anyone could want to play against slive and the sec, your own conference.

Bama got a do over trophy for playing an uninspired LSU team who had absolutely nothing else to prove. It was a complete slap in the face to Oklahoma St., LSU, and the rest of the teams in the country not named Bama.

It sucked hard that LSU had to win an SEC Championship (with a backup QB) to face a team they had beaten on the road already (who was resting while LSU was playing in a conference championship).

With that said, in 2003, after LSU beat a great UGA team in Tiger Stadium, many people were saying that UGA was still the better team because they outgained LSU in yards and their great kicker missed some field goals. Now, UGA earned their spot in the SECCG, but LSU had to play them again in their back yard in Atlanta. They were a great team, but LSU beat the sh*t out of them and silenced all doubters and critics. You would think UGA would have had all the motivation in the world. But I think LSU wanted to prove that the 1st time was no fluke. That's killer instinct.

We should have split the National Title w/ Bama in 2011.

The thing is if LSU actually loses in a somewhat respectable manner (10 or so points), the title would have been split no doubt.

I'd say USC being left out in '03 was maybe worse. Both were atrocities.

AU got hosed in 2004 too. Would have loved to have played them again. Great team and fans.

LSU football, at least from the fanbase perspective, has not recovered from the mulligan. Bc that schedule was epic, and that team crushed all comers

9-6 is crushing?

Since the game was close I feel Les thought a scramble and big play was more likely than some QB sitting in the pocket and marching down the field.

Everyone brings up the QB position as the primary issue, but our two senior guys were incredibly mediocre and our OL played All Time bad in both the SECCG and NCG. The whole offense looked uninspired in the NCG, but there was no way with our senior QBs we were going to be at all effective without solid OL play. So it is ridiculous to blame Jefferson as they both sucked and the OL/RBs were what dominated on the offensive side of the ball.

100% agree. Good point. Only if it was next year and the same teams... Bama and LSU would meet in th NC of the 4 team playoff, agreed?

Captain Ron

Oklahoma getting housed (sic) by several TDs in the B12CG should have knocked them out immediately.

It was the way the BCS was set up in 2003. It was more mathematical and had more components than just the Human Polls & computer models. Oklahoma had accumulated more points based on all the factors making up the BCS calculation prior to the Big 12 CG with K State, than either LSU or USC could accumulate, regardless of the outcome of the SECCG or final pre-BCS polls.

There was no way OU was not going to be in the BCS MNC game. I don't know why people don't remember this. It wasn't something that was done arbitrarily at the end. It was the way the system was set up from the beginning. Here were the factors:

1. AP & USA Today/ESPN Human Poll Avg.

2. Anderson & Hester, Billingsley, Colley Matrix, Massey, New York Times, Sagarin, & Wolfe Computer Avg.

3. Schedule Strength Rank

4. Loss Record

5. Quality Win

Of course after the debacle of leaving USC out, they changed the system to give more weight to the Human Polls!!

2011 is a much bigger travesty than 2004 Auburn

The fact that we were utterly embarrassed on 1/9 to a team that supposedly didn't deserve to be there is the travesty.

I lost all respect for Coach Miles that day. He has yet to redeem himself in my eyes.

In the past, he would do something goofy to cost us a game, and I'd be pissed for a day or so but I'd eventually get over it. But 1/9... he has not shown me anything that allows me to get past that.

I agree that LSU football became a little less special after that day. Some of the magic is gone, at least for me.

but sort of went into a tangent about how he and many teammates were pissed off about how Bama made it back in after beating them in T-Town, them not having to play the SEC champ game, getting an extra week of rest, etc.

Off course they were pissed off that they beat bama, but Bama got a free pass back into the title game.

But if they were so pissed off, why didn't they play like it? They should have proved bama didn't belong there, instead they (coaches and players) didn't even try.

Ive said from then, that was the biggest psychological advantage that Bama had over LSU.
MileSwag and JefferSwag were greater "Psychological Advantages" for the Red Devils than 9-6. It was like watching a fantasy game inside a real Matrix scenario playing out.
