They don't come around often but Skip was one of the best. Great pitching coach and his teams were always coached up on the fundamentals. He recruited great players that always played with confidence in the National Championships against some great teams. Very rare you saw Skip's teams play not mentally prepared, especially in a championship game. He commanded respect which I think Paul lacks with his players.

How many errors do you think the 1996 team committed?

I guess Skip recruited better players that had more mental toughness. Because coaching doesn't matter. It's all on the players to execute.

Skips teams were not perfect in Omaha.

Fundamentals? You weren't paying attention. Could not bunt a lick. Did you watch the 1996 title game? Base running blunders galore.

They won every championship game he coached. Perfection is not possible in baseball. His teams were mentally tough.

Different game played then... Skip's teams were a bunch of first basemen playing all over the field.

Skip Bertman was a very good coach who fit in excellently in his era. Top notch motivator and very good at finding talent and getting it here.

Would love to have someone who could duplicate his success. But I don't think such a person will be very easy to find.
