I think it'll be the exact kind of overall gameplan, but with more occasional shots downfield
(not based off the Cotton Bowl, no)

Less cute and more black and white, which is probably the best thing for next season.

Crowton had more talent at LSU than any place he's been at, including The Chicago Bears.

Miles called one play every drive...really?

What happened to all the other plays??? Who is Crowton blaming for those???

His offense SUCKED.

And while he was keeping a stupid notebook, the other team knew exactly what LSU was doing most of the time.

He should be put in jail.

Miles does deserve some of the blame though for keeping him so long.

I heard that every time Miles changed the play it was because Crowton called an option to the short side.

Maybe Crowton should have been thinking ahead, setting up plays, trying to understand the opposing defense, anticipating their adjustments, planning counter adjustments, etc instead of worrying about a tally sheet.

Most people that bitch about Miles over ruling him complain that pass plays were changed to run plays. If that was the case then good for Miles. I don't know if anyone noticed but our Crowton-coached QBs sucked and all we could do effectively was run the ball.

Is this a joke? How many times did we see JJ run to the weak side -- regardless of success rate? What about the running plays called on 3rd & 6+?

Gary Crowton kept a running list of every time that he called a play, and then Miles changed it

And what were the results of those changes ? The number of changed plays is irrelevant, only the outcome makes a difference. I wouldn't assume that CLMs changes were the reason for our output.

The thing is...looking at the Crowton offensive production trend analysis, this has happened at every one of his stops. Great, mediocre, crap is the progression of his offenses. Miles’s philosophy is simple and proven and can be traced from the beginning of his career. Pound the ball, pound the ball,…throw over the top. Miles has a winning formula – Get the best talent, surround them with the best coaches, ball control / defense…and a little luck. He has all the ingredients and every couple of years he puts it all together and bakes that cake just right and then..Bam…..SEC Title or NC or BCS bowl win.
That and a clean program….what more could you ask for?

I'm trying to remember if Crowton ever called a play-action pass while he was here. If he did it wasn't often.

Lee did it a few times.

Listen, the playcalling wasn't great but if miles is only changing the play calls once or twice a drive then it was still largely crowton calling the plays. Therefore, the playcalling will change with a new oc.

Plus, like some of you mentioned, the execution is what made the offense look soo bad. The playcalling was still bad but who is to say that the ones that worked were not Miles?

That's my point. On 3rd and 8 with JJ in the shotgun, what the hell do you think we're going to do?
On 3rd and 8, does it matter whether you are or aren't in the shotgun? Don't you know what's coming?

Make or break year for Miles?

He is our head coach for YEARS even if he dumps 6 - 6 this season.

Miles made the right choice when he picked John Chavis to turn around the Defense after the Co-D Coordinator fiasco. I trust that he made the right choice when it comes to turning around the Offense's clusterfrick that they had going on the past few years. I'm not expecting Heisman Award performances out of the O this year, but I think it'll be improved. Then it'll be even better next year.

Besides, from what I remember, there weren't any short side options in the Spring game. That has to mean something.

No, it didn't matter if the qb was in shotgun or not, b/c in a crowton offense, they knew what was coming....
It's either:
1.) a 6 yard slant route and punt.
2.) a WR screen and punt.
3.) an incompletion and punt.

The play calling was predictable and plain vanilla in most cases. The execution was honorific. In stark contrast, watch the execution of Florida during the TT era.
