Since a majority of our starting defense is headed for paydays (Congrats to those players by the way on earning, through talent and hard work, the opportunity to earn a nice living in the NFL)...what does our starting defense look like...I'll take a stab, but I am sure it will need correcting. For talent emphasis I will attach what I believe their star ranking was (without looking...too much time).

DE - Rasco (4*)
DT - Freak (5*)
DT - Ego (4*)
DE - Hunter (3*)
LB - Kwon (4*)
MLB - Debo (4*) (Maybe Foster IF he commits)
LB - Melvin Jones (4*) or Barrow
CB - Jalen Mills (3*)
FS - Loston (5*) (assuming he doesn't announce)
SS - Martin (4*)
CB - Jalen Collins (4*) (although Tre White could be in the mix here as well).

Although light on experience, that is a very talented group.

What say you?

Young, but looks good. I have faith in Chief that they will perform pretty well.

If looks have anything to do with it, he is going to be an absolute beast.

I hate that we are losing so much proven talent, but I think that this group will come in and perform well.

I foresee us being pre-season ranked perhaps outside of the Top 15 for the first time in a long time. I think these guys will take offense to that and we will see some fine football this fall.

I think we will go 10-2, 9-3 at worst.

We'll lose 4 next year. We can have the 70s Steelers defense out there and I still wouldn't feel comfortable with the offense we will field.

No kidding.

Agreed.

Honestly, if we are ranked outside the Top 15 to begin the season, I will be surprised. There just aren't that many good teams out there right now.

Sounds about right. Honestly, though, I think we will only lose one game next season. I just don't think our schedule is as bad as everyone is making it out to be.

Didn't Barrow have 100+ tackles this year? I'm pretty sure he has that spot in the bag.

Debo was outside LB this year, iirc.

I have heard from inside the program (I know ) that they are gonna move him inside.

Like I said, my prediction will probably need changes...this being one of them.

T. Jones and L. Barrow will be starters at LB.

Looks like a strong 11 IMO. Just not much depth

I agree. Fortunately, we have maybe the strongest defensive recruiting class we have fielded in years coming in this year to provide depth...young depth...but depth nonetheless.

We the outside shot at landing Willis/Foster/Nkimdiche on top of those that have already committed like White/Gilmore/Bain, etc., I think we put a lot of freshman on the field (similar to this year) that will gain valuable experience and provide much needed depth.

If they break up the Jalens, there will be hell to pay.

I am actually not so sure of that. I think Jalen Mills will be a first day draft pick in a couple of years. Collins doesn't look that great to me. That being said, Collins probably was just as effective as Simon this year (who was a real disappointment).

My biggest concerns for this season is the interior d-line and corner.

Freak has been solid, but not dominate. Ego has been underwhelming in his time on campus and our corners allowed way too many easy passes this year.

We have linebackers in large numbers and we have safeties, if by platoon.
