OBTW there wouldn't be near the noise in Tiger Stadium without the "sitters" there also

This has to be the biggest pile of BS that I have ever seen. Whenever I look behind me and see a whole bunch of sitters on a lets say 3rd and 1 and we are on D. Guess what I see, a majority of the sitters just sitting not screaming, a few more sitters not even looking in the correct direction of the play on the field. And maybe a few of them scream. The standers are the one hyped up for every defensive play and are responsible for getting the place rockin'.

As adults we can all control our behavior, so this "I can't help it" crap is really kind of silly. While I will get up for kickoffs, touchdowns, and big plays, I really prefer to sit and watch the game. Nothing wrong with enjoying the game as long as there is mutual courtesy. If there isn't, there are always to deputies to intervene, but I have only had to use them once in about 30 years. Not wheel chair bound, but my knees are definitely shot to hell. Hope to get replacements somewhere in the next seven or eight years.

I beg to differ, I got a sitter behind me who bothers me the ENTIRE GAME with her assine bs including complaining about people standing,

Fantastic, but none of that had anything to do with the act of sitting. A sitter bothers no one.

I'm with ya, and I agree about "mutual courtesy."

As for deputies getting involved, every time in my life that a deputy has arrived to settle a dispute over a "sitter" and "me the stander" I have always ended up standing the rest of the game.

I guarantee you that a stander will not be kicked out or told to sit down unless he is beligerantly drunk or yelling profanities. Sitters will never win the battle unless one of those two things are true. Trust me, I know from personal experience.

And all three times it happenned, I held a grudge and stood the rest of the game just to spite the sitter.

Like I said, it's all about your approach. Go grab a marshall before talking to me, and plan on going home or going back to your tailgate, because you most certainly won't be seeing over me the rest of the night.

If I see a running back bust through the line with an open field in front of him or the qb connect with a wide open receiver with a shot to score, my arse is standing up. I'm not waiting for him to score to celebrate.

I agree with this and I think its part of the problem. Some people watch the game closer than others, know more about the game than others and can anticipate a big play more than others.

Some people literally see Ciron and Dworaczyk blow their men off the line and know a big play is happening. Others sit and wait for everyone around them to stand and then they stand and see Keiland cross the goal line. I want to see him bust through the line and run between their linebackers that were dropping back in pass coverage. I want to be high fiving my dad when he crosses the goal line.

The one time I had to use one I had a different and successful outcome. I do ask first. However, I am not going to let things fester for long.

You have failed to understand a basic principle. Being a fan does not give me, or anyone else, the right to interfere with another fans right to see the game. There will be times where leaping to your feet and standing for a play is great. If everone around you or almost everyone is standing for the entire game then by all means stand also or buy tickets in another section. If everyone or almost everyone around you is sitting the majority of the time then do the same or buy tickets in another section. You can't judge whether a person is a fan or not by if they stand or not. A person can cheer and make noise sitting or standing. By your standards people who can't stand the entire game or have the ability to leap to their feet at a moments notice have no right to be in Tiger Stadium and they should just go home and watch it on tv. That is truly a pitiful attitude. Have some common courtesy for those around you. Everyone has come to the game because they love the Tigers.

Your problem here is that you're expecting most people in 2009 to understand common courtesy. Good luck with that.

This really isn't about sitting or standing at an LSU game. I'm 39 and if given the option would LOVE to stand during every play at all football games. But, I have my seats in the EU deck, and most folks there chose not to stand the entire game. So...I can either decide to be a fricking prick to those around me and enforce my will on those behind me and make a huge deal out of it and stand, or I can choose to get along with the Tiger Fans in my section and stand when play on the field dicates it's appropriate. This decision isn't about whether or not I'm a true fan or whether or not I make noise...I promise those in front of me go home with ringing ears every game. It's about me understanding the basic idea that the world doesn't revolve around me.

Outstanding post. Maybe this should be on the ticket.

so how about treat the game like this.
So you think the proper conduct at a football game is to treat it like going to a movie? So I guess cheering is right out, along with celebrating TDs and huge plays with your friends around you. Or do you high-five people in the theatre when the bad guy gets blown up?

The thing that pissed me off was at both games when a major play was getting ready to happen (i.e. Saints on the 5 yard line getting ready to score) and people decide it is time to go to the concession stand and then block my view as I am trying to let them pass and I miss the play. I mean "Are you here to watch the game or what"?? I just did not get it - it was like they were not even aware of what was going on on the field.

We must have been on the same row at both games. I said the exact same thing to my buddy at the Saints game. It was 3rd and goal for the lions and people were going to get nachos? WTF?

Why stand? Didn't you pay for seats? Standing makes no sense at all. It's the dumbest thing done by the dumbest fans in any sport. Well, not as dumb as jumping up and down in place, but close.

Nope, you paid to get into the stadium and watch the game however you so choose. The seat just designates where in the stadium you will be viewing the game. Otherwise, people will be moving all around the stadium and there will be security issues.

If I am paying hundreds for a ticket, I will enjoy the game as I please. You can sit in front of a television and get the same effect as being at the game.

I didn't see any seatbacks in the student section. People complain about how the stadium used to be so much louder in "their day", but now they don't really contribute to the noise level. They also complain that the students don't do enough to get the rest of the crowd involved, but when you hear all these complaints about people standing and cheering I don't think the students can be blamed for a stadium that's "not as loud as it used to be".

Fantastic. You're not involved in this at all then. Stand all you want.

I remember this thread from last year. And the year before that. And the year before that.

Same conclusion every year: If someone stands in front of you and you can't see because you stay seated, It will never change. All the whinning, bitching, complaining, crying you do will not change the fact that you can't see. The ONLY way you will ever be able to see in this situation if if YOU change your behavior. In order for you to ever see is to STAND UP.

Frankly if you stay seated and can't see, there is absolutly no one who really cares.

Same way in every stdium I've ever been to.

Immature college geeks can't see, or hear while seated. Why do you think they have such a problem learning while seated in class?
