I'll give you one other reason too:

Cam Cameron has had the Bama game circled since he arrived on campus. Much of what you have seen in the games leading up to that one are targeted directly at Nick Saban.

A&M is important, but it means nothing without a W vs Bama.

The other thing to remember is that running the ball more reduced the number of times Mett would be hit. I don't remember when he injured his knee but I noticed he was wearing a brace.

I think Mett has always worn a brace.

This! Plus Fla left 2 safeties deep nearly every play. It's a simple check for our offense. If they are going to line up with 7 in the box, we are going to run it.
WOuld i have liked to take some deep shots? Yes. But Zack did the right thing and kept it on the ground. Good win, lets get another this week.

I believe most importantly, as was stated earlier, it give future opposing teams something more to think about and gameplan for. Future coaches will only have limited time to gameplan, and won't know which Lsu team will show up, the running grinding one, or the air attack one. Also Florida wins games by sustaining long drives and limiting opponents possessions, no reason to turn the ball over multiple times against that really good secondary when the running game is in full swing.

And now the rest of SEC. Has to get ready for both the run and pass.

was about to say the same thing.

to respond to OP, miles/cam was just playing away from def strength. been said a million times in this thread though.

LSU has won in different ways this season, passing, running, def, etc. that balance that miles craves is evident. but the real story was the D. if they can keep looking like they did the last 6 quarters of play then this team can go from great to special.

This "run the clock" mantra. Umm. UF. Had the ball more than we did. We only ran 8 plays in the 3rd quarter.

Sure, but we controlled the 4th quarter with the running game. If we don't do that the TOP becomes very lopsided for UF.

When we needed a long sustained drive to answer UF's drive, we did it with the run game.

oops, sorry. knee jerk reaction. It seems like the majority of posters on here are still lolitas waiting for any excuse to bash miles.

and, I was just asking what your gameplan was? it is sooo easy to criticize in hindsight. I thought it a fair question.

if questioning the game plan is fair game, why not questioning the reason for the questioning??

again, lem's genius has shined for almost 9 years and the logic of his plans are sooo over the heads of most ranters that they go negative even with a victory.

have you ever been negamiles?

so, criticizing a criticizer of a criticizer makes you special in what way?

florida plays 4 db's in their secondary (no safeties) so they are small and are designed to hinder a passing game as opposed to a running game.

also, florida's linebackers are small and a mediocre unit.

florida's dl is missing their best player.

florida's game plan was to take away our passing game (imagine that).

add all of those up and we decided to take what they gave us which was to run the ball.

Excellent observation! Style points not relevant just yet. Winning is all that matters. If we HAD to win by 20+ points I'm sure we would have passed more and gotten back to 300+ YPG instead of 150+. Securing victory was the ONLY thing that mattered. We had a lead, offense was running well, and defense was playing great. Personally, I would have preferred that we "close 'em out" and put some distance on the scoreboard but that's me. We won! Geaux Tigers!

Here is the explanation.

People still talk about this. People won't bitch about an 11 point win, though.

Because when you play UF that is the best way to beat them

The strength of their team is their DBs. Roberson and Purifoy are 1st rounders, and Hargreaves looks well on his way as a freshman. Why test them??

And with UFs O, we didnt need to score 40 points to beat them. Control the clock, be in control the entire game, and take UFs soul by running it down their throats. When a team cant stop an offense running the ball it demoralizes them.

We were run-oriented in this game.

Why?

1) Florida's secondary is the best in the country. Why play to their strength when we have our RBs and our OL.

2) Our WR core is largely successful becasue both OBJ and Juice are outstanding. Juice was maybe 70% on that bum ankle and wasn't nearly as quick in his routes, which meant he was almost always covered well man to man, so it left us really with only 1 healthy, reliable target to throw to.

3) Early in the game, Mett took a kidney shot from the Florida DL. Those hurt and affect passing accuracy.

4) LSU's OL, RBs, and FBs are bigger than Florida. Without Floyd and Easley there isn't as much beef on Florida's DL and LBs this year and LSU had a size advantage so they used it.

5) Florida's offense isn't stellar and they weren't going to hang many points on us unless they got ST and Defensive points. Therefore LSU went oldschool, minimize turnovers and wear down the opponent, type play style.

6) Jeremy Hill

Florida was the first team to not stack the box forcing LSU to beat them passing. This is why it is important to be balanced on offense. If you stop one area of the offense, the other can dominate you. If it weren't for a few mistakes, this game would have been like 2011.

There's three things that can happen when you pass.

And two of them ain't good

Understand those odds?

could you have asked the question without the adjectives "watered down offense?"

crit·i·cal

adjective: critical
1.expressing adverse or disapproving comments or judgments.

imho "watered-down" sounds negative. I guess you meant it to be ??? what, what did you mean it to be?

the run game was sure not "watered-down." how do you explain that w/out using the word balanced?
