LSU is likely losing Neal and Gochaux from the D line, Beckwith and Riley from the LBs, and White, Adams, and Thomas from the secondary. Other than Thomas, none of those players will be replaced by someone that is better than they are. Yes there is talent behind all of them, but talent alone does not equal 2-3 years of experience (plus talent). I get that Aranda will be in year 2 but I do not believe LSU will be able to offset that amount of talent AND experience loss in one year. Not saying that the defense will be bad by any means, I just don't understand those people who think there will be little to no drop off.

I actually do think our Dline will be better. It will certainly be more talented.

LB and secondary is certainly a concern

Valid points but I think you're underestimating what aranda can do with the talent we have. There's a bunch of ballers sitting behind the starters now (we see how good the starters are) and I trust Dave to put his guys in the best position for success.

I think a 2nd year under Aranda will be incredible. We have talent at all 3 levels and they all will have another year in the system.

Definitely need to bring some more DL guys in for depth though.

They won't be, therefore no explanation

Second year under the new system

The last two defense classes were insanely talented.

White looks promising at LB but outside of that it's definitely a concern

Secondary has a lot of unproven talent. Aranda will have to earn his money next year to get the whole unit up to speed

I think common sense would tell any rational thinking person that our defense will step back some next year while our raw talent gains experience.

it happens. that's when the offense and special teams are supposed to take up the slack.

This year we had a showstopping defense. We don't need that every year. If the offense improves by a little, defense needs to be good, not great.

It won't be

They are losing their 6 best defensive players with the exception of Key

They might not be better, but that's not a huge surprise. They were one of the best defenses in the nation this year. I think Aranda will do a good job next year with all the talent he has, though.

They'll probably still be a good defense...we just need our offense to be much better. Mainly our passing game.

I just dont see how our secondary get better after losing adams and white(by far our best cover corner the last 3 years).

There is zero chance our lb is better next year. Zero. I expect dline to be better.

Smith and toliver have to step up.

It will not be a better defense. You don't lose White, Adams, Neal, Gochaux, and Beckwith and not notice anything. Beckwith's absence alone was very bad against UF and Texas A&M

I don't expect the defense to be better across the board but I think we will be a better pass rushing team next year . If you keep constant pressure on the QB you can hide weakness in other areas. It can also force a lot of turnovers. Honestly I was a bit disappointed with the amount of turnovers we got this year . The defense was unbelievable but we didn't generate turnovers like Alabama . The talent we have in the defensive backfield is more than adequate and we are definitely getting better across the line of scrimmage . Linebacker is by far the greatest concern , especially inside. Devin White is gonna need to step up and play like he's a seasoned vet .

And riley. Riley is by far the biggest surprise of the season. He has played as well as any sec lb.

Riley and Beckwith have similar production with Riley having more tfl, more sacks, and more ints. Our lb corp has been great this year and going into the season it was looked at as our weakest level of defense.

Here's how it's possible

DE- Rashard Lawrence (Showed great athletic flashes, one more offseason with O and Pete Jenkins may turn this kid into an AA)

NT- Ed Alexander (this is gonna be a huge upgrade)

DE- Frank Herron (Good god I feel like he's been here forever)

OLB- Arden Key (For my money, best defensive player in college football going into '17.)

OLB- Thompson/Sci Martin/Thornton (There's is where Chris Allen could easily start day 1, instead he's gonna actively take a redshirt. With that said I love Sci Martin, a late flip from TCU, this kid had 33.5 sacks in ONE season he was heavily coveted by Bama and UGA.)

ILB- Devin White (Under Aranda this could become one of the most dominant LBers we've seen at LSU. He's maybe the best athlete we have on our team (maybe Drake Davis)

ILB- Michael Divinity (I'm assuming they move him inside here, I believe they started him at OLB thinking that this spot was reserved for Moses.)

CB- Donte Jackson (His sophomore year looked like Tre Whites junior year, has all the tools and Raymond knows how to coach em)

CB- Kristian Fulton (I'm not sure what's going on with Toliver but as of now I believe Fulton will win this spot)

S- Ed Paris (Please god move Ed Paris to safety, he's perfect there. Having a senior back here would be enormous)

S- Eric Monroe/Savion Smith (Both 5*s with a load talent, I'm hoping one emerges)

ETA: Thanks The Baker, forgot about my dude Savion
