#13 LSU vs #4 Florida St.

Friday, 5/26 4:00 PM CT - ESPNU
Saturday, 5/27 2:00 PM CT - ESPN
Sunday, 5/28 12:00 PM CT - ESPNU (If Necessary)

Florida State just came off a strong regional performance, putting up runs in a hurry. Florida State is probably one of the most balanced teams in the country. They have an extremely potent offense, much like the cajuns but with a little better pitching.

Florida State much like us rely on two elite pitchers, Jessica Burroughs and Meghan King both have a combined ERA below 1.40. They both are among the best in the country.

Offensively for the noles, they are among the best in the country with a team BA of .332. They are very explosive with 71 homeruns, 86 doubles and 24 triples. They are led by two hitters who bat over .400. Jessica Warren is their most potent hitters leading them in homers with 23. Aside for two batters, everyone bats over .300 as well. Top to bottom they are probably one of the most balanced teams offensively we will see

If there is a hole for this florida state team, its their defense. The infield is very inconsistent at times and it has hurt them. Even the outfield defensive play has been questionable at times.

The Noles are 54-6-1 on the year. Its a pretty intimidating record but they haven't played the most brutal schedule.
They do have wins over Arizona, UCLA and Florida.
They do have losses to South Carolina, Florida, and were swept by Oregon.
The ACC as a whole is EXTREMELY weak. The 2nd best team in the conference is a very underwhelming Louisville team.

Now Florida State is a very good team and were ranked #1 for a month for a reason but this Super is very doable. I know its projected as a cakewalk for FSU but I tend to disagree.

Keys For Supers:

1. Pitching needs to stay strong. FSU is explosive so we need to continue to limit the extra base hits.

2. Play clean defense. We can't afford to hand extra outs.

3. Offense needs to continue to attack. Personally I saw a completely different team our last three games. I saw a team who didn't wait for pitches and sat back but instead they were the aggressive ones attacking. Dobson has always had a much more conservative approach, he likes to be patient and work pitchers. The Mcneese and ULL matches really was something we have been waiting for all season. We went after the pitchers and its what we need to do this regional. If we stay aggressive within reason and attack early in the count, we will see success much like last weekend.

4. RUN RUN RUN RUN. FSU is a bit shaky with its defense, we need to be looking to run and be aggressive on the base paths. Lets utilize our speed.

5. Score early, it completely takes the edge off the pitchers. It would be extremely helpful for them.

If Doyle and Landry can come out hot, we will be in very good shape. Pitch selection has been hurting these two.

I am encouraged with Emily, Springfield, Serrett. All look like new players. They need to continue to pour it on. Sometimes the FSU pitchers leave balls over the plate too much so I wouldn't be surprised to see Springfield launch some this weekend.

So for comparison, our top 2 pitchers have a combined ERA of 1.16.

FSU also has had a tendency to struggle to score much like us at times against good pitching.

As you said FSU is a good team, but record, ERA's and batting averages all inflated due to a shitty conference. I'd put ULL's 1-4 in the lineup against anyone in the country, and Hoover did a damn good job there.

One thing I hope Beth has learned, Walljasper is not made for these games, mentally she's always been terrible in these pressure games . Hoover should start every one of them and use Walljasper in relief if needed. Hoover is a damn dog and probably the most competitive athlete at lsu regardless of sport. Beth needs to ride her as far as she can take us, which imo is a title.

Good post and we have been playing very well of late.

RUN RUN RUN RUN. Lets utilize our speed.

This is what we all expected at the beginning of the year and it hasn't really materialized the way we envisioned. This is allegedly the fastest LSU team ever but the numbers don't show it being anything special or different than in years past.

We need Griggs to stay hot and Landry to just be Landry. Jaquish can wake up and hit. Andrews just keeps finding ways to get on base.

Doyle and Springfield will be key at the plate. If Serrett and Quinn can be semi productive offensively and play solid defense we will be a hard draw for anyone. Throw in a hit or two from Sanchez and average D and as we saw this weekend we can be downright nasty.

Pitch well, catch the ball, nothing flashy, just the routine, and we will be going back to Oklahoma City.

We can do this...

Also, I know hoover is limited a bit on her knee she still has an extremely fresh arm right now. Walljasper and hoover are completely different pitchers. There were times where hoover was hit a lot last year and then Alli comes in and shuts it all down. It really depends on the team. Thats why Torina plays the matchups. Its a luxury to have that as well. I think Smith is another pitch away from reaching the next level.

I really hope Doyle has a good week of practice because we need her badly to be productive. It may not be reflective on the stat sheet but she is one of the better hitters on this team and she has yet to touch on her potential. There are just a few kinks she needs to workout.

Also, credit to Lindsey Leftwitch for really helping turn Springfield around this back part of the season. Is she perfect? No but she looks much better than before. She usually works a lot with 1st basemen. Serrett I have always said is a lot more powerful than people even know. Serrett can easily put up 5-10 homeruns and 10-12 doubles a year easily. It look like she is seeing it better too. I notice her stance is a bit different and she isn't crowding the plate as much

You lost all credibility there. Yes, Allie struggled this weekend against UL-L, but she has been clutch throughout her career. Did you just start watching this team. Walljasper got us to OKC last year by coming up huge in both win or go home games at James Madison.

This is so, so important! I don't see us holding FSU to 1-2 runs...

I have Auburn over OU right now. OU is way too inconsistent. Plus its at Auburn and the bats exploded recently.

Although OU can beat anyone in the country when they play to their capabilities.

Personally LSU over FSU shouldn't be an "upset". LSU did have a lot of ugly moments this season but when we play to our potential we are easily a top ten team and would be competitive with anyone. Pitching can do it against anyone. Offensively, no we aren't the best out there but we have a lot of capable players. I still think we need to continue to be better on offense but when we look to swing can be aggressive I see a much different team.

It'll be tough no doubt but everyone said the same about ULL.

For the record when FSU played SEC teams, in 5 times they played an SEC opponent, they scored a TOTAL OF 8 RUNS

So I disagree. South Carolina controlled their offense. Can they put up a bunch up runs? Yes but from their play against good pitching. Its not very likely

As for LSU, I think there has been a shift in hitting. We are seeing that Serret, Griggs, and Sanchez are starting to get on base a little more. Maybe Sanchez isnt, but she is hitting better.

Landry and Jaquish are down right now, and I think Bailey really wanted to do well in her last games at LSU softball complex. She was crying after the game. I think maybe she pushed it a little bit and was trying to hit pitches that she would normally let go. She is dipping the bat a little bit, as well. Jaquish has lost so much weight lately that it probably cost her some power.

It's important that that Doyle and Springfield hit well. Florida State has two hitters that are probably going to hit the ball out the park at least twice in three games... The third baseman is especially good, and its not just the homeruns, she hits for average as well. Alex Powers is the same thing. These girls are going to be problematic. Klavemann gets on base a lot as well. We are going to need to score better than 2 runs per game to beat FSU.

As for pitching, I'd start Carly first. I may go with Allee for game two, but I really hope Beth dont let her overstay....pull her when they start hitting her. Its about winning games, leave the sentimentalities home.

I am thinking that there must be something going on with Nicky. She hasnt gotten in. I dont know what it is, but Loupe has run, and Satchell has run... maybe she was saving Nicky for pinch hitter if needed.

Griggs is hitting really well, glad that she has found her way. I knew she could and she is not fast enough for slapping.

I feel we got a good shot. We have to play solid defense.

Someone mentioned aggressiveness on the bases. One thing I would say is this, if you got someone that is fast running the bases, you might have to try to steal her to second, then bunt her to third. Bunting someone to second, when there is a chance they could steal... I am not crazy about that. Test the catcher's arm.

So, I feel good about this … if Griggs, Serret, and Springfield had not found their way in the regionals, I dont think Bailey and Jaquish could do enough to carry the team against FSU. Burroughs is very, very good, very smart, and accurate. The lefty is almost as good, and just as fast.

Yall talking about Sydney Smith, great kid, great attitude, but I really think we gotta use Carly as much as we can. Remember years ago, Traina, Ricketts, Abbot, Mowat, all of them they pitched every single game in the post season. That's how you gotta do it.

OU pitches Parkers arm off

I remember last year when they pitched her like 2 months straight, it was insane.

It will be hoover and walljasper all Supers. I think if Smith is used, it'll be in OKC.

OU pitches the chickie from Missouri..the left hander Lowary... and the freshman who plays right field, Nicole Mendes, she is pretty good too.. Lowary is one of the best in the country.

Mendes has a Deaf sister, and so i was reading up on her.. bats .440 as a freshman, and is ridiculously good.

*excluding two regional games against SEC cellar dweller UGA where they scored 15 in two games.

Speaking of...what happened to UGA this year?

On topic: If the LSU team of the last three games shows up, I feel good about their chances in Tallahassee.
