So what was the point of changing the schedule?

It just had to be a half arse measure for optics showing they did "something" right? I'm excited to get the season going but really see no reason why it couldn't have started at the normal time against Texas.

It was all for optics, the whole “standardized procedure” line we were fed was bullshite.

Can’t count on other team or conference decisions. At least the SEC can try to remain aligned.

I think it was mostly a cost cutting measure. No point in paying rent a wins with such limited gates. Probably couldn’t get out of those contracts if they picked and chose what non conference games they played

So yeah we just kind of got fricked.

It was to delay it start to fully insure it was safer. This was combined with the fact that many conferences that SEC Teams were playing were not sure they would play. So they guaranteed a full schedule of SEC Teams and and delayed the start of the season to give teams more time to play and evaluate the situation.

Note the ACC has had problems getting out of the blocks. VaTech has had to cancel some games, and ND-Wake canceled this week. Obviously hoping for the best, but this is not going to be easy...

If you think before you speak it might occur to you. With the conference only schedule the conference has sole control over schedule changes and any financial impacts that could have. Also with the immense amount of lost revenue it is not in the best interest to be shoveling cash out to non conference opponents...

It would be VERY easy if we would just ignore a virus, which is equivalent to a cold for these kids.

1. Texas decided it wasn't playing any OOC games on the road.
2. Both schools probably decided that they would rather this game be played in a full stadium post-COVID.

It might have been presented as such.

But, what it really was is to give teams time to make up for missing practices, both shutdown and player quarantine, so that SEC teams didn't look a bunch of Inuit baseball players trying to play football for the first time.

ETA: we've seen teams that shouldn't look like shite that indeed played like shite over the last two weeks. Iowa State comes to mind. Sankey, as much as I dislike the man, either heard the schools and changed it to prevent that or, maybe, came up with the idea himself.

Remember, there was no "announced vote" of what to do for the SEC... just an announcement. Yet none of the schools really complained about it. That tells me the schools had input in it all the way.

Not easy when teams have so many players out sick or exposed that they can't field a two-deep depth chart. That's what's causing a lot of these postponements & cancellations.

The point was to support the narrative of a horrible, terrible deadly pandemic....

Yes. Especially considering the testing is fraudulent...

They have an insatiable desire to control people. Control is like an aphrodisiac to them.
