Lebron james with a weak jump shot.

He is really killer around the paint, great on defense, and his passes are sublime.

LO is a good baseline comp, then throw in a dash of LeBron and a pinch of Magic

Can everyone tell him how wrong he is??

Simmons is Magic/Odom/Lebron/Webber/Pippen

I told you from the beginning Odom was a better comparison but I was trying to pick a player with higher upside and currently playing.

Blake:

Did you think he could just dunk and scores 27 points a game by being more athletic than everybody? He has incredible body control, handles, touch, awareness, and savvy. Ben's handles certainly seem better(hard to tell when Blake's playing NBA players and Ben has played high schoolers), but neither are going to be Lebroning or Magicing an offense, so it doesn't ruin the comparison.

But yeh, Lebron and Magic are better comparisons. Because I'm sure those guys would be ranked behind Skal Labissiere in some class of 2015 rankings.

You think everyone mentioning this comparison does?

I wonder who said it first that made them decide it was obscure yet popular enough to sound cool.

the Lamar Odom comparisons fit though

I don't get the LeBron comparisons at all. Other than passing, their games are nothing alike.

He's widely regarded as one of the most unique, fun players to watch. Reputation as the best ball handling/passing/cool play making big man. Not so absurd to think that real basketball fans have gone back and watched footage of him playing.

He actually began at UNLV but transferred to RI after a few scandals emerged his freshman year in Las Vegas. I don't believe he actually ever played a game for UNLV, but he was fun to watch at RI

This may be completely accurate, but how many Rhode Island games did you see in the 1998-1999 season?

Its so obvious people are just throwing that in there because it automatically raises his ceiling. I wonder if everybody on Kentucky's message board has to tack a Lebron resemblance on every stud they get.

Cousins passes well for a big man? D Robinson mixed with Lebron
Anthony Davis is a good jumper? KG mixed with Lebron
Rajon Rondo is quick in passing lanes? Jason Kidd mixed with Lebron

I've seen him plenty that year. He and Cuttino Mobley led RI to the elite eight that season. I also remember that buzzer beater he had vs Temple at the last second.

Or ... OR ... maybe it's because Lamar Odom was a 6'10 lefty who could play all 5 positions on the floor?

Maybe people are making the comparison because it's apt, not because they are trying to be "obscure" ...

But please, go back to listening to the moutbhreathers mindlessly throwing out Durant comps.

I was just thinking of this after the game. I'm going to say a Magic/KD blend. He could play PG but we don't have enough front line depth (at least until Victor can play and assuming Robinson is ok).

On a side note, I really like how Gray is playing. He looks like the "Arkansas game" Josh Gray and is really attacking the basket. I like him coming off the bench and attacking like he's doing in the first few games.

I agree in the sense that KD can't play PG but Simmons can. Simmons is tough to compare because he is so versatile. He's a taller, more athletic, lighter Magic but not quite as good at the point (at least not yet). Physically, he looks like KD. Honestly, I don't think we'll ever see anyone at LSU like Ben again - not b/c we won't sign more great players, but b/c he's so versatile and skilled for someone 6'10".

KD is an elite jump shooter.

Simmons isn't.

Their game isn't remotely similar.

Agree, TQ and Sampson weren't having a great night last night so Gray shouldered some of the scoring load.

His ability to attack the rim is a nice pressure release for the offense.
