So encouraging to know that the Tigers will have a real Offense in '17

I realize that it's just two practices but you can sense the excitement and optimism of the players for Canada's methods and schemes.
Everything that has been reported just validates what we witnessed from Miles' offense, which actually got worse over time- the predictability, the lack of motion, misdirection etc.
You also get the sense that, even accepting our apparent lack of great QB talent, a different coaching staff would have gotten more out of the position than Miles and Cam did.

I could care less about any viable offensive schemes learned at practice, all I care about are the results from the Big Cat Drills.

It makes no difference what offense you run, you still have to have the right QB to make everything work. Not sure if we have the one who will or not

Someone hasn't been paying attention to how Canada operates.

There will be growing pains for sure. These guys have been trained for Miles ground and pound culture. With the limits on practice time I wouldn't expect a well oiled machine next year.

Doesn't matter. Look at what Ensminger accomplished with the hand he was dealt. It was an improvement. I think, like Aranda, Canada is going to run the plays that the offense can handle well. He's smart and won't try to do it all.
The fact is that it won't be toss dive, off tackle, chuck it deep-lather, rinse, repeat.

As to the poster who commented about the inherited quarterback talent, Canada will get more out of those guys than Cam did.

It will be a refreshing change from Elmer Fudd getting outfoxed by the "cwazy rabbit" crap.

I was slightly worried about this at first, but then again he turned Pitt's offense around in one offseason. I would think our guys are just as intelligent as the guys at Pitt and could transition just as easily if not better.

all you need is a SYSTEM don't need a Tom Brady or Drew Brees a QB just someone who fits the system and knows it

That stuff isn't magic.
Malzahn is one of the greaterst minds in multiple offense, yet with similar recruiting rank has slightly worse W/L record than LSU in the past 4 years as HC.

I'm sure I'm going to take a lot of flack for this, but good offensive scheme or no, we don't have the kind of talent on offense that we did a decade ago. Simple fact.

Russell, Flynn, Bowe, Davis, Doucet, Addai

v.

Etling, Chark, Gage, Guice

Love those guys and what they do for LSU, but the decline in talent is real and it will take Coach O a few years to change that. Temper your expectations, folks.

No one is expecting THAT kind of output, and honestly we don't need it. If this offense can consistently put points on the board, with Aranda finally able to make his mark on the defense, the results are going to make people happy.

We're not going to consistently compete for the West without that kind of talent.

Don't get me wrong, I think Guice + Chark are going to have a monster years, and Davis + Anderson show a lot of promise. Moreau is a really good TE, and we've still got some beasts on the oline.

But damn we used to be able to roll in superior athlete after superior athlete. Our second team guys were better than most team's first string. Now ... not so much.

Give O some time and we'll be bringing in that kind of talent again.

The people we have are more than capable of putting up points. I'm not predicting a title first year, but we're going to be exponentially improved with the right guidance finally.

I agree with you there. He's a great evaluator of talent and a great recruiter. Hell, look at what he did at Ole Miss. He brought in guys like Mike Wallace and BenJarvis Green-Ellis -- both from Louisiana and both overlooked by LSU.

Guice is a better back than Addai. I don't think we lack skill position players other than QB's. We don't have prototypical tackles.
I think you're overstating the superior athlete depth. If that were true then Miles truly underperformed (which he did to a great extent).
Miles recruited good to great skill players but they wasted away in that pitiful, archaic, unimaginative scheme.
Canada changes that element. That's what this thread is about. Getting the ball to playmakers, keeping the defense honest and creating match up issues for the opposing D.
