Saban went 9-3 is final year. Saban did not tank his first year. He went 9-7 after the Dolphins had gone 4-12 the previous year.

Then promptly went to 6-10 after taking Culpepper over Drew Brees.

I wonder if she worked at Smoothie King and if Miles was the only coach she knew.

No fricking way he should have or would have fired Miles and hired Saban back after 2006.

For all Skip knew, Saban would pull the same shite again in a year or two and leave again.

He made the right decision at the time based on the evidence he had.

No way in hell was Saban ever going to be at LSU 10-plus years.

Let's gloss over that he resurrected the program from ashes. Forget that he stopped the hemorrhaging of Louisiana recruits going elsewhere.

DiNardo started that. Kevin Faulk is probably the most important recruit in LSU history. He made it cool for Louisiana players to go to LSU rather than FSU or Miami. DiNardo's downfall was much like Miles', he was loyal and stubborn (keeping Lou Tepper's shitty defense, and starting Booty over Davey can be argued as well).

Saban was good here, and got a lot of things going (i.e. facilities) and kept/increased in-state recruiting. Which set the foundation for Miles to come in and succeed, and has kept LSU towards the top in the nation. It sucks that he left for the NFL, and then became such a huge success at one of LSU's rivals. But all credit for LSU's success is given to him which is unwarranted.

Edit to add: If Saban resurrected LSU from ashes after those two losing seasons that were preceded by three winning seasons (7-4, 10-2, 9-3), you must truly believe that the 7-4 in DiNardo's first year is a miracle since it followed SIX losing seasons. Seems like DiNardo must have created that team out of thin air as there must have been no ashes from which to resurrect.

I'm sitting here with a former offensive starter off of that team. And he says you're a fricking idiot.

No it can't. Saban started Booty over Davey as well. 1999 was Booty's first season and Dinardo's last

The Mett game plan rumor in 2011 is so ridiculous it hardly warrants a reply. Poor guy really believes it is true though.

Davey had a horrible game against auburn in 1999 and Booty starts the next week and LSU loses by one point. That's probably why Booty played the majority of the year.

Booty started against Auburn in 1999. Davey came in and sucked worse but booty threw for 285 against Auburn

Yeah, I know all of that. It just seemed like the team completely quit on Gerry after that switch. Then the interim coach uses Davey against a ranked Arkansas team and LSU destroyed them. That's why I said "can be argued."

Edit to add: Your argument also assumes that both quarterbacks were the same player in 1999 and 2000, and that Saban is infallible.

By the by, in both of those seasons Davey's completion percentage and TD:INT ration was way better than Booty's, granted in a limited capacity compared to Booty. (Yep, the backup QB is always the best player on the team, even 17 years later. Ha.)

Davey started, and Booty racked up the garbage yards in relief.

Don't leave out Craig Nall. I think LSU started 3 different quarterbacks in the first 3 games of that season.

Yea, I heard that before. Team doctors.

C'mon. We all know Saban is a control guy and the Phins gave him total control.

If he really wanted Brees, he would have gotten him.

Dumb statement is dumb.

The LSU fanbase has ALWAYS been football first even when baseball what at its peak.
