A more apt comparison would be Les's SEC record versus Payton's overall.

So here:

2015 so far: 4-3
2014: 4-4
2013: 5-3
2012: 6-2

Total 19-12

So yes, still much better than Payton. Why LSU fans are so spoiled? I don't know.

Why? Payton doesn't get the opening four games against teams from the CFL, the equivalents to our EMUs

Yeah...I saw how much everyone else has struggled with the Tennessee Titans this year!

This thread is dumb. Payton has always been considered an offensive genius-- thus the saints have never had real offensive struggles. We have gone through 3 defensive coordinators since then. I promise you, if the saints offense struggled as much as their defense, Payton would be on the chopping block.

You are complete idiot. You are comparing the NCAA to the NFL. No team in the NFL is expected to go undefeated or 15-1 every season. The expectation at LSU is a championship. EVERY.FRICKING.YEAR.

OK...Let's compare NFL to NFL

Since 2012 - Winning percentage

Saints - 50%

Patriots - 79%
Denver - 79%
Seattle - 71%
Green Bay - 67%
Indianapolis - 66%

Quite a difference!

Are you really insinuating that a championship every year for LSU is a more realistic goal then a 15-1 NFL season???

I think this is a lot more of it than people want to say. Losing a game or barely squeaking by in a low scoring game where your office appears inept looks much worse than losing games while scoring a bunch of points. Even when LSU was winning people waiting for the wheels fall off, because the product did not look crisp. Once a few losses line up, it is curtain time.

Since when? I don't mean to be disrespectful, but ya'll have two National Championships since 1959.

Guess you missed their last game, where they managed to put up a whole 14 points on the Redskins.

It sort of looked like a "offensive struggle"!

Also,I think having a Drew Brees goes a long way towards helping a coach look like an offensive genius.

To answer the OP, sean payton is under plenty heat. The difference is he built this saints team whereas Les inherited an elite program. Alleva also wants Miles out, I think that's clear and Loomis obviously doesn't. Then you have the whole NFL vs college comparison you're trying to do which is just silly. It's a different game.

Sean Payton took a franchise whose players were working out in a parking lot in San Antonio the year before and immediately got them to the NFC Championship game and three years later a Super Bowl win. To compare any of that to Les Miles is a joke to the point of being offensive.

It is glaringly obvious that Williams had more to do with this than Payton.

Wow! So the old adage, "It's all about Wins and Losses" no longer holds???

It's all about being "entertained"...HOPEFULLY, YOU ARE JOKING!

NEWSFLASH...The ugliest of WINS will always outshine the prettiest of LOSSES! Even in today's PC world, that will never change!

Williams wasn't around when the saints were in san antonio or when they went to the first NFC championship. You're clueless.

Lame excuse. Every NFL team is on a level playing field, available talent wise.

Saints fans historically are just a lot more use to being losers than LSU fans are. even with that, Payton seat is getting warm.

The difference is that Sean Payton doesn't sound like a blithering idiot when he speaks.

And Sean has shown to be a low character guy in his personal life and ran a program with cheating history.

They are still in the NFL. LSU plays lower tier teams. Their records are much more comparable when you just use SEC opponents.

The Saints were hammered by NFL penalties a few years ago, and have managed a playoff win as early as 2013. Sean Payton is widely recognized as a good offensive mind. He is struggling right now, but most objective minds understand it's with personnel and not coaching. There is much more in the NFL to wins and losses than coaching as compared to the NCAA. For instance, Mikey Loomis and player personnel decisions are not 100% controlled by SP.

Les makes all decisions (or at least is in charge of all decisions) on personnel (recruiting). He has done well with recruiting as compared to 90% of the NCAA head coaches, but has struggled despite his solid football teams.

I am not trying to let SP off the hook, but he has one more year to turn this ship around with Drew, or he is likely going to suffer the same fate as Miles. Only reason he still has a job is because of the playoff win in Philly in 2013.

Les isn't given the same type of slack SP is given the more difficult environment of the NFL, but SP has more recent success in the face of adversity. Les is struggling to remain competitive in the west without similar sanctions.

Both are trending in the WRONG direction though.

Because one is a top offensive mind in the modern era of football and the other is a motivational speaker with a headset.
