JJ with a 6 month head start.
Shep with more athletic ability.

Who wins this starting job?

Silly aside, what if we did a version of the A-11 offense and put them both in there?

My mind would be blown.

JJ will be the starter. Been watching the UA practices. Shep is awesome, but has some work to do with his passing.

How exaclty do you know that the 6' Sheppard has more athletic ability than the 6' 4" Jefferson?? Do you mean he runs faster? I see no evidence that he jumps higher, throws stronger, etc. Who would win in Basketball? Can Sheppard hit a Baseball better?

You guys amaze me. Just calm down, children.

with crow and miles there is little doubt in my mind that we will see this at one point.

until shepard gets on a practice field and we hear how he is coming along with the playbook and etc., i will stick with JJ. He took some pretty big strides from his first PT to the peach bowl. if he keeps that pace i believe he will be the starter.

runs faster is usually a good indicator. but the fact that Shep is the #1 athlete and recruit in the nation, and is said to be able to convert to db, rb, or whatever else he wanted to do counts for something. Video footage of him embarassing 5a TX players and cutting on a dime without slowing down leads me to believe it also.

You amaze me. With your douchebaggery.

If JJ progresses like he should, why not RS Shepherd? Yea, I know he's the greatest, but I think it makes more sense to let him learn a year.

i don't think there's a chance in hell he redshirts. i mean, the dude will be the 2nd or 3rd fastest guy on the team, has plenty of shake, and can play qb.

at the very least, you'll see him running the option package.

First, I think it would be helpful for LSU fans to learn how to spell his name.

Russell Shepard

Secondly, how do you judge talent when you are comparing high school players versus college players? Of course Shepard is going to look out of this world against kids who'll never play college ball. I bet JJ looked all world against that level of competition, too.

i found the spelling both ways on recruiting sites. My bad.

Russell's video is better than JJ's high school video. It's not difficult to see. Not saying who's better, but I don't think it's a stretch to see that Shep is the more versatile and better overall athlete.

It's a rare high school player, no matter his skill set, that can adjust quickly to the college game. And with the talent in front of him and his long-term potential, I would advise him that being redshirted could be the best thing for his college career and beyond.

i agree. he wants to play right away and wouldn't of choose a school that would red shirt him.

he said he can line up as a slot, return kicks, defensive back, but prefers to play QB. g/f's dad watched him play a game this season. said he is the real deal. he isn't some man amongst boys dominating 2 or 3 A ball. he's doing it against the biggest and best in the state of texas.

Pryor started this year. And he's a dual threat qb. And most think that Shep is as far along if not further.

I just don't see a redshirt happening. he'll return punts or get on the field somehow.

Enrolling in the spring will help RS tremendously, but I don't see him as a QB next year as long as JJ continues to improve. Didn't RS have a really low completion rate in high school? That tells me he has a lot of work to do to be a good passer.

If he is as advertised, then he'll be used in various formations to get him the ball in space.

Won't RS be playing in that Under Armor High School superstar game on Monday? That would be worth watching, I'm thinking.

Or at least TIVO'ing for later viewing.

that's what I'm saying about the variation of the A-11 Offense. two quarterbacks in there. Both of whom can run and pass.

Think the Wildcat but with an even greater pass option.

FYI; The Copperas Cove team that RS put over 530 total yards and 6 TD's on in the third round of the playoffs (And still lost) has 19 jr's and sr's currently being recruited by Div. I schools and even at they they lost in the state semi-finals. Texas HS football is a slight upgrade from La's and pretty much everyone outside of Ca and Fl. La talent is considered upper tier usually but still not on Tx level.

Lee put up huge numbers playing 4A ball in Texas. How did that work out for him in college?

You guys need to realize there are no guarantees.
