congo wins unanimously. jordan held his own somewhat, but became extremely tired in round 3. congo looked really really good - best shape ive ever seen a 37 yr old in

Kongo was exhausted. He didn't look like he was in good shape. Visually I guess, but he was sucking air big time and rolled over and laid on the ground when the final bell rang.

Too bad, I was hoping Jordan would be able to climb the UFC ranks. Still time to improve of course, but Kongo is nothing compared to the top of the division

Jordan will now be used as a stepping stone for up in coming fighters.

Shawn took a fight against a top 25 fighter in the world, on 4 weeks notice, coming off 2 surgeries, and still went the distance against a guy with 6 years UFC experience. Shawn just started traing with Jacksons camp less then 2 years ago and has got a lot of learning to do. This loss will drive him to train harder and show him that he has a future in the UFC.

I'm not an idiot and I know the fight wasn't a great fight to watch but the fact that Kongo couldn't finish him was damn near carried out of the cage shows that Shawn isn't a push over and is no stepping stone. If he keeps training in NM and gets healthy then he will be a good fighter for the UFC.

He'll never be considered a good fighter at this level.

I'll take Greg Jacksons opinion over "biglego" about whats considered a good fighter any day of the week. That's not an insult to you either but I feel safe in saying that he knows more than you about fighting in general.

The only thing that will ever hold Shawn back is his height, the HW's now are all 6'4-6'5 and have the reach. In terms of pure athletisism there aren't many guys that are more athletic, there are more physically gifted guys, but not many more athletic.

Shawn's got heart, competitivness, strength, and the right mental disposition to do very well in fighting... It's all in front of him but I can tell you this, I talked to him yesterday and he's already bitching about not being able to start training again for a few weeks. He's even more hungry after Saturday night.

That's good to hear.
Also, I expect to see him much trimmer in future bouts - that extra weight helped on the football field, but is a killer in the ring.

That's good to hear that he's got resolve and isn't moping. Height, esp just a couple inches, can be neutralized with aggressiveness and ground game. IMO fwiw. And I say that bc I'm 6'5" and dabble in martial arts. (dabble might even be a stretch).

Shawn will be in a lot better shape for his next fight, he had surgery not long before he accepted the fight and wasn't able to train much and with just 4 weeks to prepare he had to focus on game plan much more than cardio..

You could see the difference between the amount they were able to game plan because Nog is a take down guy too so Kongo focused the bulk of his training on takedown defense knowing that's what Nog/Shawn would have to do to beat him.
