re: Seriously, what's with the Oregon hype?

Not to mention that I'm not convinced this team would have beat LSU this past season
I doubt LSU would have beat Oregon on a neutral field. I think Oregon would have ran it down our throat in the fourth quarter to put the game away, much like Arkansas did.
Could LSU have upset Oregon in Tiger Stadium? Maybe. It's all hypothetical, but I think Oregon would have beat us in Autzen or in Glendale.
Next year? Now that is a different story...

depending on their last game lsu fans believe they will either kill anybody in the country or lose to anybody in the country. last season was a fun season to lurk here. here's to next year

There's a lot of truth to this.
It worked out well for us in the 2006 (Jan 3, 2007) Sugar Bowl. Not so much after the 2008 Chick-Fil-A Bowl.

While a solid bowl game win does give ANY winning team something to look forward to you left out that LSU returns a lot of veteran players, has the top JUCO QB and finally got rid of Crowton as to why expectations are high not just with fans but by the media and pollsters as well...

i meant last game period. not last game of the season

Are you talking about the 2007 NC game??
Oregon / Auburn
Oregon / LSU----------------Same results. Too much defensive speed.

Yes, Miles is the only coach in history who typically starts guys who started the previous year

And he doesn't play freshman either, just ask Tyrann Mathieu

Its really amazing to me that coaches can watch players everyday in practice, see hours of game film, but they are not as good at figuring out who start as fans that just watch the game each week or saw this guy play in HS.

LSU played 23 True or Redshirt Freshmen(This includes walkons) this past year.

LSU is the team coming in with all the hype. We hadn't won our division in 3 years and people are talking about us around here like we are a lock to play in the National Championship game.
Posted on 2/13/11 at 2:04 pm to EricB
It's hyped because both teams will be highly ranked going in

BTW, I'll be heading to the ASU/OR game in Eugene next year - any wineries up there that are a MUST visit?
I wouldn't know as I've been 21 for almost a year now and I'm not much of a wine buff. My dad's a wino though and talks about how good the wine is around here so I probably just don't know my stuff. Here is a list of some that may be of interest to you with links to various websites of the wineries within the area but I couldn't tell you which one is better than the other:

Personally I'm more of a beer person and the Willamette Valley (the region in Oregon that houses Portland, Corvallis, Eugene, etc.) is arguably the microbrew capital of the world. You can try out Eugene's own Ninkasi Brewery, which has some delicious IPAs if that's your kind of thing (also have a very good Double Red Ale and Oatmeal Stout as well as a seasonal beer which will likely be Radiant Ale by then despite it being a Summer Ale). Eugene also has Oakshire Brewing and Steelhead Brewing Co., which are also quite good (I prefer Ninkasi but that's just me). There's also Widmer and Rogue (to name a few of the bigger brands) up in Portland and if you really wanted to make a trip out of it, you could go to Bend (home of Deschuttes Brewery) or Hood River (home of Full Sail brewing, among others). This hardly does the area justice as there are many more breweries in the area but they're just a few suggestions.

Whoa really? Jon Gruden the announcer?
Depends on how you look at it. John Gruden the announcer, John Gruden the Super Bowl winning head coach. I guess both do apply.......
As for the rest of your point, I didn't exactly mean 'so what' in the sense that I believe we'll reload without missing a beat (at least not easily anyway if that indeed does happen), but rather we'll be starting guys that saw significant PT last year. It's not like we'll be starting some redshirt freshman or sophomore who never saw time in the rotation last year, which seemed to be the person who I was responding to was asserting. That's all I meant by the 'so what' comment. I'm still worried about the holes (particularly at the DL for us) and chemistry but at the same time the guys stepping in got plenty of PT last season.
LSU will be a very good team if not a great team next year. They certainly have the talent defensively to slow our offense down. I'm not so blind as to deny that reality, I just happen to think Oregon has as good of a chance to win that game as LSU does. When both are playing at their best, they're tough to stop.
I will be interested to see the adjustment from Crowton to Kragthorpe, as it is difficult for any team to spend an entire offseason un-learning the things they learned under Crowton while learning a new system. That said, believe me when I say Oregon fans are disappointed that he left LSU, as we all had the same problems with him when he was here that you guys have with him now. The only time Crowton really did well for us was in 2005 when we had talent at all positions, kind of like what happened with you guys in 2007 (aka the year where everyone seemingly did anything they could to NOT win the national title). I think it's safe to say our move from Crowton to Chip Kelly ended up working out pretty well for us and I have a hard time thinking the same won't be true for you guys.

Not being a jerk but this really doesn't apply. JJ retained very few play calls, just by watching him play this past season. The best game called this past season was the Cotton Bowl followed by the game against the Gumps.<---personal opinion.
Crowton has redefined, at LSU (I'm aware of his total f up at Oregon but as of late), what not to do as a a QB coach. Make the plays so complex it takes a guy over 2 years to even kind of remember it. Now this can be said for JJ or JL.
Personally, I think there will be very little plays JJ or JL have retained that will have to be "reprogrammed."

I don't think it will be a problem. Mettenberger will not have to unlearn anything and Lee and JJ have all spring to adjust. The major work will be fixing the bad habits Lee and JJ have developed. I don't think a new offense will be a problem though.
