How often to predictions that are "fricking stupid" and "blatant homerism" (for example, predicting 11 wins and victories over Florida and Bama last season) have to turn out correct before people will stop labeling predictions of great success for one of the most successful programs in the country as "stupid" and "homerism"?

Spot on, kind of like every one was predicting that both Aub and Oregon to put up 50 on eachother.

Coaching staff genious? Quick snapping is a gimmick, it comes down to depth on the roster, how many players you can rotate (when given the chance)... any game in which Oregon hasnt' been able to snap the ball every 9 seconds they've looked terrible. SEE the CAL game.

Didn't look any worse against Cal than you guys did against Tennessee. Heaven forbid a team plays a bad game ever, especially on the road at a place where they hadn't won previously since 2001. The nerve!

quote:

Also, Oregon's team is damn near a completely new unit. LSU has one question mark in the LB position, every other position has proven that they are badass.

It's about half and half on each side of the ball and the majority of the guys stepping in saw steady PT last year. And did I miss something or did Jordan Jefferson prove himself to be a badass behind my back? JJ looks good when he plays well but every time I have ever watched him play he has been overwhelmingly inconsistent.

quote:

If you quote those states about Oregon's pplayers, do me a favor, take their Auburn stats and multiply those by about 8 or 9 and then thats what they'd have ended up in in the SEC (as auburns defense was about middle of the sec).

Whatever makes you sleep better at night....

quote:

Oregon is simply replacing too many guys to make another run, and the only way they make it to a bcs game is if their conference is as piss poor as it was this year. Their conference was arguably worse than the ACC and Big East this year.

I can see the argument for the first sentence but you lost me on that last one..... You got numbers to back that up? Look, I realize the Pac-10 was Oregon and Stanford with everyone else crapping the bed, but there is no way in God's green earth that the ACC and Big East were better. If you're still convinced that they are then I'd love to have whatever you're smoking.....

quote:

I wonder how great of shape oregon's players are in, if LSU goes prostyle and consumes 7 min off the clock and then oregon's offense is on the field for 40 seconds - 2 min (real time not game time) and their defense has to come right back out...

Well considering Oregon practices at such a fast tempo that John Gruden goes to the practices just to watch and take notes, I'd say they're at least moderately conditioned. And yeah milking the clock is key against Oregon but they do pride themselves on being a quick strike offense. You guys have a great defense obviously but just in case you didn't realize, there are playmakers outside of the SEC....

quote:

% of LSU players that will be first year starters next year (18%)

% of Oregon players that will be first year starters next year (50%)

Now factor in recruiting rankings...

Yeah you guys return a lot and we don't, what of it? Again, most of the guys who are stepping in got significant minutes last year. And what recruiting class are you talking about? This year? LSU was a whopping 3 spots ahead of Oregon in the recruiting rankings on Rivals, 1 spot ahead on Scout, and 4 spots ahead on ESPN. And besides, recruiting classes are half the battle. You gotta coach 'em up when they get there....

Oregon's pace will kill you. Except of course when it hangs out on the sideline all game.
I will say that their DB #13 might be better than PP7 but dunno if he went pro or not...

Whoa really? Jon Gruden the announcer? Amazing. An announcer taking notes, wow. Did you really just say Lsu returns a lot of starters, and we don't, so what?
So what is that your team will be worse off next year than ours was. Did you look at Oregon's defensive line for this year coming up? You kind of lost everyone. Lsu returns 4 OLmen, one backup who started a crapton of games while two of our guys were out this year, and Michael Ford/Spencer Ware to run all in Oregon's @ss.

Oregon's O-Line is gone too. I think the spread game will help out in that area, with a quick release style of play, but even your receivers are gone. COME ON

So do me a favor, what is Oregon's record against ranked OOC opponents since your new HC has been there? Apart from dominating your own PAC10, what else have you done?

We got some naive people in here, most of us know it's a tough game.

Thats where you lost me

To answer what they've done outside of a solid conference, how bout kicking the living shite out of a team on the road the we almost lost to at home?

Not entirely true. #9 class this year, #13 last year, and #11 in 2007. The 2007 numbers are somewhat misleading though since much of that class defected, be it through not making it, transfers, dropping out, and in one unfortunate case where a player died.

Ignore the myopic homers. These are some of the same people that claimed LSU should beat UDub by 40 a couple of years ago and UNC by 30 or more last year. The hyperbole gets even worse the closer the game becomes. It will be unbearable in about 5 months.

Very nice show of selfcomposure. You've got to understand some in our fanbase believe a little too much in "visualizing and achieving". I think it will be a great game that I think we will win, but I couldn't give two shits about winning the pre-fight "push battle" e-debate that it seems some tiger fans feel is critical to us actually achieving victory.

If LSU has it's running game going and is eating the clock on 5-7 minute drives they win by at least 10...even if JJ starts I believe Krag is going to simplify the offense from that clusterfrick confusion fest that Crowton ran that led to a lot of JJ's problems...

We're not all assholes...

I loved watching y'all play this year, best of luck to you after the first game of the season next year.

BTW, I'll be heading to the ASU/OR game in Eugene next year - any wineries up there that are a MUST visit?

No, not even if they turn out to be right. If I take out another mortgage on my house and bet it and my entire life's savings on red 21 on the roullete table and it hits, was it a good bet? frick no, it was still retarded.

I'm not sure you even have read this entire thread. I predicted us to go 10-2 last year and to beat both Bama and Florida. I think we'll beat Oregon as well. But there is no piece of anything remotely resembling objective evidence that would suggest we will be running them out of the building by the beginning of the 2nd quater. At all.

We haven't blown ANYBODY out in years, much less a good team. We barely scraped by Tennessee and Ole Miss at home last year. And since we destroyed Arizona in '03, every game we've played against Pac 10 teams has been very close. And if you recall, we haven't exactly been playing the Oregon and USCs of that conference either. And we actually are arrogant enough to think we are going to dominate the national runners-up by 4 touchdowns? Get real.(Not everybody is predicting this granted, but these are the posts I was replying to)

We might beat Oregon by 50, but predicting it is, yes, fricking retarded homerism. And it's insulting to Oregon's program and makes us look stupid. Actually, predicting anything besides a close game flies in the face of any reasonable objectivity based on anything that's happened with each program the last couple of years.

That said, 31-27 Tigers.

This past year we had 6 returning starters on offense and 4 on defense, an still won 11 games.

We lost:
Brandon LaFell
Chad Jones
Keiland Williams
Charles Scott
Trindon Holliday
Richard Dickson
Harry Coleman
R.J.Jackson
Chris Hawk
Danny McCray
Jacob Cutrera
Lyle Hitt
Perry Riley
Rahim Alem
Ciron Black
Chris Mitchell
Al Woods
Charles Alexander

A couple more things, LSU played 23 True or Redshirt Freshmen(This includes walkons) this past year. Thats a young team.

This will be Chiefs third year, hes getting the players on his page.

Krag was a major hire.

The Oregon team has major losses in key positions. Players on the DL and OL will hurt them along with Maehl (That kid was a player) and D. J.Davis. On the OL the loss of OC and the two OT will be felt. Holmes, Kaiser and Thran. On the DL three of the four linemen along with two of the starting three LB'ers.
