He wasn't good enough to play in college. I don't know why everyone though he was gonna make it in the pros.

From the newspaper article the blurb was based on:

quote:

There are probably a couple of practice squad spots reserved for wideouts. If Maehl doesn’t occupy one, Russell Shepard and Ifeanyi Momah would be the most likely candidates off the current roster to fill the spots. Shepard had a nice start to camp, but has tailed off. He’s done all the right things – attached himself to a veteran like Avant, stayed after practice to work on his catching – but he faces an uphill climb to the 53. He isn’t averse to playing on special teams which could help his cause. Read more at LINK
Doesn't sound like he's not good enough to play in the NFL. Also, the writer says that his choice for the 6th receiver was "a total guess".

Unfortunately it looks like his peak was in his high school days.

What position would he play on special teams? I assume not on returns and he probably tackles for shite.

He always played safety on kickoff returns - last man back. He was actually great at it, and saved several big returns. Probably the spot where he contributed to the team more than any other.

With what they're reporting, sounds like he'd make the practice squad.

Love the guy and he's always a Tiger

You love him? Why?

Was it because after he left he threatened to write a "tell all" about his time at LSU? Was it because of all of the huge plays he made?

I'll save my affection for guys like Hester, Copeland, PP, Steltz, etc.

So much for all the Russell Shepard packages that he claimed to have been promised when he signed.

That's good enough for me. Considering that teams only carry 5-6 receivers on their regular squad getting one of those spots would be like a basketball player making the starting lineup in his rookie season.

I agree with you, R.T. He was a good story coming out of H.S. But some cakes don't quite get baked. There's more to football than most realize. He didn't have the full package. We can all wish him well as we do all Tigers, but some of you lurkers need to get a life and "move on"...as Shorty would say...

Shepard did make a ton of big plays, especially relative to the amount of touches he had. Off of the top of my head...

2009 Auburn - 50ish yd td
2010 UNC - 30ish yd td
2010 Bama - about a 30 yd run
2012 Towson - 70ish yd td (nobody else did anything that night)

They did have some. He was targeted early and often in the first preseason game. Couldn't come up with any production. Targeted around 6 times and gained 4 yards. Not the greatest throws but he couldn't make the plays

Great. So, on average, one big play per year. Awesome...

No, he didn't. If he had, then he'd have gotten more touches.

That was never the issue brah. It was the lack of including him in packages throughout his career.

Lol wut? No its not, if it were like making the starting line-up, then he would make the starting lineup. So what about the many rookie WRs that play consistently? Is that like making the NBA hall of fame?
