CPM knows that Gilbert's stellar performance just might light a fire under Reynolds in his potential last time toeing the rubber for LSU. I would love to see the 5th year senior go out in style.

Peterson likely would have been starting but has some soreness in his arm & is unlikely to see the mound

Reynolds has good stuff , he has experience, and he's been waiting for his time to shine on the big stage. I'm guessing he steps up big time.

Reynolds does not have good stuff. He throws a completely flat fastball that is not even overpowering. His curveball is mediocre and he usually can't locate it.

With that said I won't be surprised at all if he competes and keeps us in the game. But "good stuff" he does not have.

Reynolds is gonna pitch 6 1/3 innings, 4 hits, 1 run.

We are gonna shock Florida and win game 1.

In my head i can see him going 5 IP and giving up 2 runs. And i would be ecstatic with that.

If he goes 6 1/3 and only gives up 1 then it's just meant to be for the Tigers this season.

Is that the best we can do is Reynolds? That's hard to believe. What about Bain?

Reynolds and Bain are probably you only two options to start the game. Bain may come in relief.

So to answer your question it basically is the best we can do.

Whatever Dunn told Gilbert Saturday, he should tell the same thing to Reynolds.

Reynold's throws a 2-seam around 91. He may have control issues, but lack of movement isn't one of his problems.

Agree to disagree. His fastball is flat as can be and has no lateral movement. And it's usually around 88, not 91.

I think the main concern with any guys who pitch is going to be control. We can't walk 5-10 guys and expect to win. We throw strikes and I like our chances with the defense playing like they have.

And he struggles with control usually. But i think his last couple of outings gave him a little confidence and for some reason i just see Russell pitching above his head tonight.

Apparently Glen Guilbeau is not a fan of this decision, as evidenced by his now deleted tweet..(found via Alden Cartwrights twitter LINK )

He's just trying to be funny. It's embarrassing when unfunny people try humor.

This guy is a loser.

Bottom line. Gotta win 2 games. Doesn't matter in what order. I think Maneiri's play is on paper the highest probability to win it all.

In the end we are sending out two best pitchers with the most rest possible out to the mound and asking them to win. It is then up to the players to figure it out.

That is all he can do.
