Well, except for Mickey, Martin, Quarterman, Gray, Hornsby and Robinson III...

What about Quarterman, Martin, Mickey, Robinson, and Patterson?

All but Patterson were highly sought after and Patterson was a diamond in the rough... We have a very good recruiting staff.

Amazing hire. Great person, too. Worked extremely closely with him during the 04-05 season. He was the one coach that would literally stay after for hours helping guys get up shots. Then EVERY single home game, 2 hours prior, he was out there working out Garrett and Tyrus when they were redshirted. He loves basketball and is in it for all the right reasons. He may not be a terrific recruiter, but he loves his players and they love him.

This hire is very exciting news to me simply because I used to know him and think very highly of him.

IIRC, he was a big part of that 05-06 team's success (also the 04-05 team wasn't bad either, UAB game notwithstanding).

THIS is the kind of assistant LSU needs, not someone like Butch Pierre. Butch was a good fit on Brady's staff. Jones doesn't need a Butch Pierre on his staff. He and Patrick are doing a fine job recruiting, and by all accounts Jones is not the confrontational arse that Brady could be at times.

People act like Musselman played ZERO role on this past season's team, when in fact he was the guy that put together a lot of the scouting reports and really helped out on defense. It's no coincidence that (as a team) LSU was MUCH improved on defense this year. Trelor would be a good replacement for Musselman

It's funny, but it seems like the basketball program is trying to meld the good parts of the Dale Brown era with the good parts of the John Brady era. Combine the likability and recruiting prowess of Jones with the teaching ability of the Brady staffs. (Remember, though he could be very unlikable, Brady usually won big when he had the players)

What about them? Martin is from BR and the rest are nothing special. I don't understand how anyone can dispute Simmons coming isn't due to Patrick being his Godfather.

Your information provides kind of assurance that this is a good hire. Hopefully it becomes a reality soon!

No one is disputing that Simmons is here due to Patrick...

We are disputing the fact that you act like this staff can't recruit, which is absolutely the most illegitimate claim I've ever read on this board. They are likable and have brought in a ton of talent. If you can't see that, you may actually be blind...

So let's see, Treloar and Butch Pierre are candidates (supposedly). I know that Donny Guerinoni is available. Maybe he gets a look too.

The problem was that he was usually the problem when he didn't have "the players." I'm not sure Brady ever had more than 8 scholarship players at a time. I'm exaggerating a bit, but I wouldn't be surprised to find out that was true.

A Ton of Talent? Arizona, Duke and Kentucky have a Ton of Talent. LSU has some good pieces that can win you 20 games. But, to say it's pure talent is a stretch. Also, a good recruiter can land kids from Detroit, Chicago, LA, NYC, Philly and DC Metro. At this time we don't have any of that.

Jones, is an in-state/regional recruiter at this time. I think he's good for LSU and he should get the time he needs.

I'm laughing only that all serious candidates appear to be people who used to be on staff here in the past. I have no idea if John Treloar is in the running for the job. So I will neither be surprised or not surprised by whatever happens with him.
