A lot of those 3rd downs were converted on broken plays. We had good coverage or good initial execution to stop the play as drawn up but didn't make the tackles to stop the drives. Incredibly frustrating to the fans, and I'm sure the coaches and players. To do everything right but make a damn tackle. But that's football. Ole Miss just made the plays when it mattered.

look at most football games....

the team with the most rushing yards and fewest turnovers wins most football games....by a long shot...

Yeah, how about a
gameplan there, coach. They help you win games.

no substitutions, Freeze's gameplan was to run right at Welter in teh middle and it worked to the tune of 180 yards and a TD. We need linebackers period! Where was Q. Thomas, lacouture, Beckwith, Bower, and Neal? They did not play 1/2 as much as last week!

After ole miss muffed the punt and we couldn't punch it in, I knew the Tigers were beat.

How many times did Ole Miss punt? Twice? 540+ yards of offense fpr the Rebels. Stellar defense, eh?

This is the correct answer. Mett had an "off" game for sure, but all of this rests on the D.

I agree. If you had told me OM would score 27, I would have told you we won by 2 TD's. Granted the defense did not look, but as far as points given up, they played well enough to win. I put this loss on the offense and game plan.

Our defense sucks.

The answer to your question is yes.

We are still using the young defense excuse, yet Ole Miss was playing walk-ons. This defense suck the last four games of last season and it was full of NFL talent. Chavis is the common denominator.

27 points to Ole Miss wasn't that big of a number considering how bad the LSU defense is. The offense/Mett lost this game. LSU needs to score 40+ on that Ole Miss defense Saturday night.

Early on it looked like the offensive line was getting out hustled.

Mett starts throwing terrible picks.

Several drops by RBs would have moved the chains.

Yes. Giving up 525 yds and all those 3rd downs is never good enough. Its the 8th game of the season and there has been zero improvement on the defense. Florida was a mirage because their offense is horrendous.

Mettenberger's first half of not checking down cost us the game?

Average starting position on 3 picks: 17 yard line

Points off the 3 picks: 3

And only one pick was in the redzone...and that was the 2nd pick and LSU was at the 20.

The picks were not good...but they were far from costly turnovers that cost us the game.

I think most knew going in to the Ole Miss game that this defense was bad. Did anyone think 24 points was going to win this game on Saturday night?
I understand not getting off the field on third down prevents our offense from scoring more points but we were shut out by a sun belt level defense in the first half. The game was lost there. 188 yards of offense and zero points in the 1st.

agree, but disagree....turn at least 2 of those pics into a FG at minimum and don't give OM momentum and LSU wins easy.

But agree the pics didn't cost us the game but they hurt badly. I still blame the D.

well the fact that they only scored 3 off the INT's is what kept this away from being a blowout.

even though they didn't score a bunch off the TO's those are 3 offensive possessions where we had 0 pts. it's bigger than you think.

but the defense getting gashed and giving up 3rd down conversions like candy didn't help.
