Looking for a number rating 1-100 for the entire program - not just coaching, not just players, not just facilites. The whole program and where it stands right now in your opinion.

Feel free to explain and bash or praise the usual suspects if you want. But I ask that you put the number rating at the top of your post.

a lot of that is due to factors that will always be there. we'll always be in the SEC, with 92,000 or so fans that live and breathe LSU

we're not at the top right now, but we're basically one game away.

les miles has his weaknesses, but he's quotable and charismatic, and he wins. you never know what will happen next.

jarret lee has been forcing himself into more playing time, and the coaches are smart enough to give it to him.

let's not overreact to our one loss. how many teams go into auburn and beat them that day? if we beat bama my rating goes back over 90. if we lose it drops to 80

79--which is school is a C

25 points each earned for spec teams, offense, defense, coaching

spec teams-23--very good players, no big weakness here but neither kicker is an all-american

offense--16--o-line and QB play are keeping it low--WR's are great but do have the drops. RB has been solid

defense--22--solid but last game alone drops them.

Coaching--18--clock management drops it along with offense playcalling.

85 and rising. virtually all non-game areas get 100. get a QB and about 3 new coaches on the offense and we will improve substantially.

so you choose not to rank the academic situation (where our graduation rates have dramatically improved), the character of our players (where the arrest rate doestn't compare to uga and uf, etc), our facilities, our atmosphere and all of the other non-game issues. are you an LSU graduate or is the LSU football team your PROFESSIONAL FRANCHISE.

It is about a 96. Very strong.

ETA there will be a number of people who don't understand the term program and will instead give their assessment of this year's team.

24 Special teams...agree neither kicker is a All America.

22 Defense...Well stated about last game

15 Offense...Enough said!

13 Coaching...Crowton needs to go, Miles soon to follow if he doesnt right the ship.

Total....74

Might as give my rating.

I think the defense is good but I'm not sold they are dominant like some of our top defenses through the years.

The special teams is very very good but PP's really spectacular returns seem to have happened mostly early in the year.

I have to admit that the offense is just kind of boring and almost depressing to watch. I keep thinking back to the days of the pistol or even back to when we could gash off long game breaking runs fairly consistently. I just don't seee that.

So the guy who started the thread wanting us to rate the ENTIRE PROGRAM just gave his 2 cents and only rated this years team.nice

Anyway, I'd give the entire program a 95 or so. We are still a top 5% program when compared to every program nation wide. That's not saying we're a top 5 team, but when you factor in every aspect that makes a program what it is, we're at the top of this list in just about everything. This includes what you see on the field every game as well as facilities, conference prestige, position within the conference, location, fertile recruiting area, money in the program, etc.

Facilities Id give an A-: Practice facilities and weight room are second to none. Tiger Stadium has lost some of its aura. Not as roudy as it used to be, in need of some renovations, etc.. Still seats 92k + and really gets up for the big games.

Coaching Id give a B+: In any other conference this would be enough to win out or at least 10 games every year, but this is the SEC. Something needs to change and quick.

Talent Id give an A: Only reason I haven't given it an A+ is because a lot of it hasnt lived up to hype. Not many schools out there would get an A on talent so we are very good in that department.

Development I'd give a B-: The only reason I even gave this a B- is because of the defensive players' development. If not for them I'd give a C-. For some reason our offensive stars have seemed to regress over the last 2-3 years. Most of the big plays we see or great catches/throws, etc, are on talent alone. Funadmentals, discipline, and technique are just not there imo.

....................

Defense: A-
I'm very excited to see this defense in the next few years. So many young stars in the making. But because we are so young, it has shown a few times this season. The D-line is SO fast but we have problems with over-pursuing at times. Linebackers are solid at best. Take Kelvin out and we might have issues. Secondary is very talented.

Offense: Not really a surprising C-
They are lucky to even get that high of a rating. It's fun watching the oregons, and stanfords, and the rest of the high powered offenses around the country. They have one thing we have not had since 2007. An Identity. I don't even think the players know what the hell it is we are on offense. The only reason we have even stayed in ANY of the games we have played this year besides the defense/special teams is talent alone. It's a good thing we are pulling recruiting classes.

Special Teams: A+
on coverage and returns, this squad is special

Recruiting: A-
I think we have missed out on a lot of really great players over the years, but we have also picked up some even better ones. The QB situation is big concern though imo. I dont really count Zach Lee as a QB recruit last year because he was recruited heavier on the baseball side. Just so happens he could throw a football also.

Overall I'd give a solid A- for the state of our program. It really isnt hard to see what we need to work on, the question is, do we have the means to fix it??

Oh, I guess you could say 90

LSU runs a top notch program as well as anyone in the country. I don't take away from the score if players don't live up to their potential or coach's freeze in pressure situations. Its the program that gives the team the opportunity to succeed in a respectable manner.

Valid point. In my defense I tried to type that in pretty quickly during my lunch. I'll try to post some thoughts on the rest of the program.

my own personal scale is...

1 = I would rather watch a porno with Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O'Donnell and Micheal Moore than an LSU game

and

100 = I'd pass up a 3-way with the most recent 2 Playboy centerfolds to watch and LSU game

I'd probably rate the program at 99.99999999999 and fit the 3-way in at halftime

We're third in the conference in graduation rate, we're top third in the nation in terms of current players in the NFL last I checked. We have not been on probation nor involved in any academic or nonfootball relation scandals other than the rare instances. We have top tier facilities. We have an elite defense, elite defensive coaching staff, pedestrian offense, and scrutinized offensive coaching staff. And we have a head coach that is in the 98th percentile at his profession.

Give it a 94 with room to grow as the season progresses.
