Here you go.

quote:

"As soon as we drafted him, I made a cut-up of every single rush he had at LSU," the Vikings' defensive line coach said. "I had him come to my office, and I said, 'I want you to explain to me what you were being taught to do.' So we're sitting there, and he's explaining to me how they were teaching him to rush. Well, you run [a 40-yard dash in] 4.5 [seconds]. But you take off on the snap of the ball, and you run wide. Now, the offensive tackle just kicks back and waits on you. You might as well be running 4.9, 5-flat. And number two, I don't think he was exposed to how the offensive lineman was trying to pass protect against him. He was just out there, using his athleticism and trying to make something happen. The first thing I wanted to do was find out what he knew and why I was seeing what I was seeing."

The LSU D-Line has been a strength for years. Brick had a big part of that. To completely disregard those achievements is wrong. Brick is a very good DL coach.

the talent, or the evaluating and coaching of that talent, started to wane. just feel the line started becoming weaker the longer into the tenure, meaning guys they recruited were not panning out.

linebackers other than kwon, who was a 5* before getting hurt, have sucked. the Georgia trio were not recruited by chavis. I also have a feeling Les stepped in after auburn and told chavis to make personell changes. insert beckwith and Adams, defense became much better.

The offense goes out to practice every week, looks at what the defense they will be playing does and puts together a game plan for that game. Defense has to do the same, but it was almost like Chavis didn't, he just ran the same defense and hoped it worked...

This. It was the anonymous quote from fellow SEC coaches that started the whole decline talk in the first place. One of the quotes had to do with Chavis' predictably. Even Stevie Wonder could see that Chavis was going use a typical Tampa 2 on the early downs then go to his mustang package on 3rd down.

quote:

“(Defensive coordinator) John Chavis, he’s done the same stuff schematically for what feels like forever. It’s not very difficult. They do a lot of two-man, a lot of Tampa 2. That’s one thing that he’s just not going to change." …

"I don’t think they will be the same up front at all. They lost a lot of players. I just don’t think they are going to be the same."

I agree that Chavis didn't outscheme. He coached solid fundamentals and beating your man 1 on 1. Keeping things in front of you and capitalizing on mistakes.

Watched the replay of the Ole Miss game yesterday and Chavis blitzed on just about every down in the last 5 minutes of the game, but still didn't get much pressure on Wallace. Bo overthrew a wide open receiver and made a bonehead throw at the end.

both sucked and will continue to suck. When has Chavis ever had a defense that overachieved. If our great defenses were great bc of him, they would have been great every year.

My mind is all full of frick thanks to you
