Look, I do not have a problem with trying to run the ball. My problem comes in when the run is stopped, there is no plan B. the time management issues of the past are Miles' fault. He gets too involved in play calling and forgets about his job. Those time management issues are rookie mistakes. Just as having no answer for a defense stopping the run. I will say this, how many OC's do you see as O-line coach. O-line coaches think they can run vs a brick wall.

Miles can recruit and make great hires. He cannot call plays. He is terrible.

I would take Jimbo Fisher, Will Muschamp, Dan Mullen, Gary Patterson, Brian Kelly to name a few

My defense of Miles is as such:
He did hire a legit OC the poor man just came down with a terrible disease.
Hastily promoting your OL coach to OC and we go 13-0. Hard to second guess demoting Stud at that point but the need for having a new OL coach was glossed over with the assumption Miles and JD can uphold the OL coaching. What results is a lack of attention to detail.
Also the injuries like Faulk are debilitating

NOW:
that does not include the miserable play calling this season.

I have read through every post in this thread and the sentiment is alarming. This is the bottom line IMO:

Making any suggestion about a new OC, OL coach, new philosophy, etc. seems antiquated because Les is either depressed or his ego has gotten big enough that he isn't willing to either change the philosophy, OC, etc. or he wants to micro manage because he wants to take control because he won't welcome influence outside of himself. He has seemed to be in a depressed state [and in turn the team as a whole on average (that is less energy)] or he obstinate to anyone else's suggestions.

Saying all that, I have no clue as to what the exact problem is; the above is mere conjecture.. However, I don't know how else to quantify what is going on with this team. It's amazing that non-LSU followers think he is the 'Mad Hatter'/'River Boat Gambler'/go-for-it-on-4th-down-trick-plays-up-his-sleeve kind of coach. He was to start his career at LSU, but as fun and gutsy as he was, he is coaching suffocatingly close to the vest and playing not to lose, instead of having calculated craziness.

If his hubris has gotten in the way of offensive dynamics and philosophy, then this is how LSU offense is going to be from here on out. Then again, LSU is 5-1, mathmematically controls its own destiny, and all nega-Les talk will go down the drain if LSU is 7-1 heading into the bye week.

Amen! Some of these people think that it's a 100% "given" that we would replace Miles with someone better. We know what we have with Miles and I agree that he needs to feel some pressure to make changes on the offensive coaching staff. I'm just not sure that it would matter if he won't let them run the offense.

Our AD needs to get through Miles' thick head that his brand of football isn't fun to watch. What is wrong with having a dynamic offense AND a dominating defense? That...too some degree is also Saban's weakness. If Miles wants an edge on Saban, he should beat him to the punch on changing his offensive philosophy. Miles has plenty leverage right now but if he slips (3-4 loss season)...the heat will come very quickly. I just hope he can check his ego and make whatever changes need to be made.

I'm not calling for Miles' head....yet. However, a change needs to happen at OC. If Les is too stubborn to realize that, he'll end up weeding himself out of here. This past Saturday he was lifeless on the sidelines.

I don't think he's worth 4 mil+ per year though. Hell, we could probably have Urban Meyer for that kind of dough.

So we lose our first regular season game since 2010 and people want a new coach? We are playing with ONE offensive lineman in his normal spot, 2 freshman and a sophomore in the toughest conference in the country. Was anyone here for the 20 years prior to Saban? I remember praying we could break into the top 10. LSU fans are THE BIGGEST CRYBABIES I have ever seen.

Miles is a great recruiter and that is part of the frustration many of us feel; at least myself and many friends.

We have incredible talent that is being wasted. LSU should not have a mediocre offense and a team that plays with lack of discipline. We should not be committing penalties and turning over the ball like we are. This is coaching.

I like Miles as a coach and as a person. Kudos to him for kicking Perriloux off the team as well as the Honey Badger. Both hurt the team but he stood on principle and I applaud that. These young men will one day have a life after football and he is teaching by example.

To address the question of the OP, no, I do not want another HC; I want Miles but he needs to hire a REAL OC. Stud was simply plugged in last year to fill the gap because Krags wasn't going to be able to do the job. I understand that and wow we did amazing with that setup last year. Probably overachieved. However, I had hoped we would go out and get someone in preparation for this season but we didn't. Stud was and still is an OL coach, just like Miles! So what offense do we expect?

Can you imagine LSU with a legitimate offense? We are a dynasty, back to back championships, etc!

I don't think many of us are freaking out over one loss. After all we lose to a great SEC team on the road by a touchdown. Not too shabby. But when you see this coming before it happens and expect more of the same, that is what is worrisome.

There are legitimate concerns for this team going forward and unless they are addressed this will be the worst season under Miles' tenure. That doesn't make me a negatiger or a hater, it probably means I care more about LSU than the sunshine pumpers. I WANT LSU to be good but you have to be real if that is going to happen.

Les Miles is a great guy, an awesome family man, represents the University well, is very loyal, an above average recruiter, loves the community, treats his players like family, graduates his players at a high level, runs a clean program, makes the tough decisions (dismissing two former SEC Championship MVPs), loves the community, and the community loves him back.

Oh and he wins 80% of his games. Which, if you read the stuff above, is just an added bonus.

It would be a huge mistake to replace him.
