The Perrilloux situation screwed up the normal progression cycle of QB development, as did Crowton. However, the LSU situation isn't that far out of the ordinary. Auburn's missed on a bunch, Alabama has been a revolving door of top recruits and has had to go get a transfer that hasn't stepped foot on campus yet to hopefully start. Spurrier's record with QB's at SC isn't stellar.
