How many of those won championships

Zero, because it takes more than good QB play to win a championship.

But you don't win a championship without beating bama.

Interesting huh

The only formula to beating them is tempo and the ability to extend plays at QB. And a great defense.

I dont really remember the Manziel Bama game but Ole Miss and Chad Kelly outplayed Bama basically from the start of the game so to say it was just one fluke reception or play is BS IMO.

in the 2015 game played at BDS, ALA dominated most of the statistical categories. Bama lost because they committed 5 crucial turnovers which resulted in 24 Ole Miss pts. The Rebels committed 0 TO's and scored on some freaky plays.

to beat Saban, you have to play an error free game, and score touchdowns off forced turnovers. FG's in the RZ won't get the job done

The same one that just beat us.

The only significant difference b/w LSU and AL this year on the field in Tiger Stadium was Jalen Hurts.

His feet beat us. He threw 1 incomplete pass in the 4th Q, and it was deflected and almost intercepted. He threw an INT and fumbled, TR FR type mistakes, but he gained critical yards w his feet that led them to victory.

All 4 of LSU's losses this year would have been victories w a QB that was a viable running option.

The play that won them the game, was a fluke play. Had they not gotten the tip and catch, Ole Miss loses the game. Fluke play.

Manziel beat bama on two fluke plays were he just got out of being sacked. One was his heisman moment, the other was just a ridiculous escape, pass and catch. All flukes. But not as fluke as ole miss.

the reason for that is that Bama's frickin' DLine and LB's are the best in the business. the only way to beat them is to neutralize them by using the shotgun, and passing the ball quickly. then, a run or two will work. ANY team that goes toe to toe with their front 7 is going to lose. it's a stupid damn strategy. and that has been proven many times.

I agree with OP...yes, the QB must be a great passer, but if he can't run that is a big negative because Bama's great pass rush...and he must be big enough and tough enough because one of Shorty's commandments is to "affect/hurt the QB"...and on the OL, we appear to be making progress on that front with this incoming OL class

Pro style adjectives aside none of those QBS ran vs bama they all won throwing the ball from the pocket. So this myth that you need a running qb is false the QBS that beat bama all had good games throwing the ball not running the ball.

Every qb that has beaten bama was a threat to run.

Have to keep those chains moving.

Keep that d from pinning their ears back. Poor mettenburger r.I.p 2013.

all things equal - in a theoretical sense - a highly elusive scrambling type of athlete is better than a stationary person. problem is, going through progressions in seconds and knowing complex playbooks and having skill and desire to study films etc etc is apparently very rare (regardless of star ratings).

i think you just have to bring in the best talent the program can get and let them develop and see what suits the team best. of course, this all assumes the playbook and coaches allow for the possibility of a diverse offense

Mett had a great game vs bama in 2012 and I know they were a threat to run most weeks but not against bama. Those games were won from the pocket. Look what allen did to em this year for arky 400yards if we do that we win going away. Duel threat QBS is a knee jerk reaction and won't work vs bama you have to beat them straight up. I'm not saying double tight I of course you need to spread them out but you need to throw it when you do no qb has beat bama running the football.

really good.

Just remember, Bama had both Ken Stabler and Joe Namath and neither of them had to start their freshman year.

You don't win one even if you beat bama. See LSU, Tamu, Ole Miss.
