I stopped at 2009 because Hatch and Lee split time against App. St. (FCS formerly Div I-AA).

While Jennings Comp% is low, his other numbers compare very favorably to season openers for former LSU QBs. His Comp% might be somewhat excused by the high YPA. (There were certainly some drops last night, but every QB has to suffer through some drops.)

Jennings has the #2 Rating, the #1 YPA, tied for #2 TDs and TD%, and the #2 Yards.

Surprisingly, his numbers exceed all of Mett's numbers (except Comp%) for a home game against North Texas.

Significantly, Jennings threw ZERO interceptions.

He had a rough start but 0 interceptions is a major plus. He's careful with the football and sails it way OB and is patient and very accurate at times. That being said, I hope the game slows down for him and he continues to grow. Wiscky will beat a lot of teams this year.

Nice post, makes a great point. Tired of hearing how "terrible" the couch QBs on TR think he played. I actually think he managed the game well, and even got unlucky at times. Screen pass execution is concerning, but it wasn't always on the QB.

0 int's was huge

I was skeptical that he could limit the mistakes that would cost lsu the game... he didn't lose it for them

Good post, some additional observations:

- great pass to Smith that was dropped
- three incompletions were on screen attempts, which should be correctable
- had a couple of throw aways
- deep passes to Dural and Quinn that were not caught were good throws, just better coverage
- no passes that were close to being picked

He threw the ball pretty well and had nice touch. He only missed on a couple of throws, a big improvement from Iowa. I know they like rolling him out, but some of his best passes were in the pocket with his shoulders squared

He's a work in progress but at least he has talent and poise. I'm completely fine with the situation

I really wonder what kind of tone the first half takes if Magee doesn't drop that screen pass on our first drive

Aren't you better than this?

I know you want Harris to play, and he will get his chance, but can't you say anything nice about Jennings?

He made some critical completions that probably won the game for LSU. His completions to Dural and Diarse were absolutely critical securing victory.

His completion percentage would have been better, but Smith dropped a pass and a couple screens were thrown behind Fournette.

It all depends on what you look at. He threw for 4 TDs and almost 400 yards. Very good! He also threw 3 picks. Very bad!

It's like the people who focus solely on Jennings' Comp%. It wasn't good. However, the rest of his numbers a very good.

Of course, what few LSU fans will take a close look at is how he ran the options. I thought he read nearly all of the plays very well. Those plays held set up Hilliard's long runs.

Jennings First Half versus Jennings Second Half

I like how some fans are saying we were way too conservative in the first half and opened it up in the second half, yet we threw 15 passes in the first and 6 in the second.

The formations opened it up with less I formation, but on straight play calls we were less wide open.

It just shows how much many fans on here don't know about football.

Comp . . 42.86%
Bad news: 42% is low.
Good news: A few of the incompletions were screens, and should be very correctable.
