Poche possibly an option in Tuesday's game

that question: Does coach Paul Mainieri throw Poché? The grizzled junior got the win Friday night in a regional-opening win over Utah Valley, tossing 92 pitches during a six-inning outing.
The coach was non-committal when asked about Poché twice in Monday’s post-game news conference, saying the pitcher is “possibly” an option.

“We’ll see, see how he feels tomorrow,” Mainieri said.
The Tigers have plenty of other pitchers remaining. In fact, only Alex Lange and, arguably, Poché (8-4, 3.47) appear to be unavailable for Tuesday’s tilt. None of them, though, match the resume of Poché, a Lutcher native who became the first LSU pitcher on Friday to win at least eight games in three consecutive seasons.
Mainieri was faced with a similar situation two years ago in a regional the Tigers lost at home to Houston. The Cougars pushed the Tigers to a decisive winner-take-all title clash, and the coach decided against bringing back Poché on two days of rest.
A year later, Mainieri said Poché, not a power pitcher, could have returned for that Monday night duel against Houston. The Cougars racked up 12 hits against six LSU pitchers – many of them relievers – in a 12-2 victory, ending LSU’s season in miserable fashion.
Mainieri avoids placing stress on a pitcher’s arm and often preaches about the importance of their futures, but he’s, at times, thrown Poché on four days of rest, starting him on a Saturday and then again on a Thursday.

If he feels up to it, I say give him the start. If he can give us 3 good innings, then you turn it over to Valek, Latz, Bugg (in that order) to try to get to Newman.

Yes as this is a must win and there is no tomorrow!!

3 days rest, not a power arm, he could give us a couple innings.

I agree poche is the best option but Its almost comical that a program like LSU doesn't have 4 to 5 quality starters , and it's been a problem for quite a few years now ...,

Especially when Florida has 7 potential 1st round round pitchers on their staff. Vandy and Florida always have 3-4 starters who can throw. I don't get why we only have 1 "Alex Lange." Traditionally we have been one of the best programs. Shouldn't be too hard to get them.

After that shite show last night, there's no choice. I'd start Latz , hope he can give you 4 then pray Poche can give you 2-3

Only problem with that is he's now on short rest for the supers if you win. I guess you could save him for the game three of the supers and hope Gilbert does better in game 2.
One day Paul will develop a third starter.

because PM wastes the scholarship allotment on rag arm outfielders

Marshall, Latz, McKay- all potential first round talent.

no-matter if Poche comes back next year or not, we are stacked with starting pitching.
Lange is his last year
Gilbert
Latz
Smith
McKay
Marshall
I'm sure more will compete for a starting role.
Next year we are going to be scary. Getting a top 8 seed was a big accomplishment for us this year, hope we don't lay an egg again like we did vs Houston but next year will be fun.

UF has 7 potential first round players. 3 are position players.

You never know what you have with pitching. On any level. They are as flaky as all get out. Lange is about the only sure bet going into next season. Latz Gilbert and Smith are basically unproven but have shown glimpses of potential.
Baseball is crazy bc of pitchers mostly. These guys fluctuate more than penny stocks.

It's a win at all cost tonight. You can't save anything for Supers. You bet your arse Rice won't be saving anyone.

Exactly. You want Poche in game 1 of the supers.

They have to make it to the supers for that to be an issue. If Poche wants the ball, which I imagine he does, give it to him.
If worst come to worst, he will be ready for game three.

Considering we are playing on Tuesday this week, I would be shocked if we don't get the Sat-Mon Super Regional schedule.
If that is the case, Poche could have 4 days of rest and pitch on Sunday. Not ideal but assuming he only pitches 2-3 innings tonight, he would be fine.
