We were competitive with Bama, not so much Florida. I don't think we got the ball past midfield in the second half against Florida. It's just that we have had a weak schedule so far and are lacking in quality wins. We have beaten two teams who are above .500. If we can beat Ole Miss and Arky, I'll feel much better about things. If we don't win those games, I feel like our program is definitely trending downwards.

LSU's current record of 8-2 is hardly average

It seems rather unexceptional when you look at the 8 teams they've beaten and the performances against them. Auburn was really the only time I've seen any real coherence on offense, and even that wasn't just spectacular.

I don't disagree with that. I think everyone agrees that we have not dominated some of the games we think we should have dominated, based on talent differences, etc.

But you have to be reasonable and look at the circumstances. LSU's offense is unimpressive at least in part because of the tactical decisions Miles/Crowton have made to protect Jefferson from the possible train wreck that Lee was thrown into last year. Every defensive coach we go against knows and anticipates this. They stack the box to stop the run, cover the short and intermediate routes and dare LSU to go vertical. Right or wrong, Miles/Crowton apparently don't believe Jefferson is yet ready to accept that challenge.

So we go with limited offense and rely on our improved defense to make fewer points stand up. The result is that LSU is winning, but not with the style everyone wants. So Les Miles is a bad coach. Of course, if he cut loose on the offense and let Jefferson air it out more, with results similar to Jarret Lee's last year, Les Miles would be a bad coach for not learning from his mistake!

In any event, LSU fans need to judge Les Miles by what he has accomplished over a period of time, not just this self-destructive "what have you done for me lately" approach.

Bama is on its way to its 2nd consecutive undefeated regular season. Even the ultra talented 2006 and 2007 LSU teams couldnt do that. It sucks to think that, no matter how much talent the team has, we are always going to incur at least 2 losses.

And like the other poster said. They don't play UF every year like LSU does

Just because we had bad years, and loved the fact that we even got to play in a bowl, does not mean we have to settle for mediocrity now

Am I missing something? We currently have 2 losses. Is 2 losses considered mediocrity? Geez. Must be that new math they're teaching you kids in school.

Two losses is mediocre when you lose to the only two good teams you've played. We have only beaten two bowl-eligible teams so far this year.

More I've thought about it. I'm fine with losing to the likes of UF and Bama, as long as we are competitive (like this year). However I'm not fine with squeaking by shitty teams. I don't think you'd hear nearly as much anti-Miles rhetoric this year if we'd dominated the teams we should have...fact is, we haven't dominated anyone. Some of these games shouldn't have even been close much less in doubt as to who would win.

I agree, but we can't lose to the top 2 teams every year. That makes us a permanent #3 SEC team. That's not good enough for me.

I see the SEC as a conference where there are 3-4 teams in the mix every year. As long as we're one of those 3-4 and come out on top in the division and the conference with some regularity, I'm ok.

When a team wins the SEC, they're going to have a great shot at being in the BCS title game.

That's a fair point, something I have said in other threads. And I do think the SEC is, on the whole, weaker than a few years ago.

How is it mediocre to lose to the top 2 teams in the country. They're not the only 2 good teams we haved played, they are the 2 best teams in the country. Losing to them doesn't equate to mediocrity.

I guess b/c LSU should be able to beat the best teams, and LSU has looked like shite against the inferior teams except for Auburn and Tulane games. Sucks to be 0-4 last two years agaisnt those a-hole teams.

No. Wins and losses IS the name of the game period. Period. Teams are ranked by wins and losses not by some fans "feelings" about certain teams. You are trying to redefine what the main emphasis of the sport is....to win games...we hired Miles to win games....winning games keeps us ranked. Losing them drops us. Mediocre is defined as "in a middle state". In the rankings of college football, a mediocre program would be ranked about, what, 60ish? Are we there? Have we even been close to being there under Miles? You're just trying to push your point of view and agenda by redefining what success has been determined to be in college football. My gosh, we are currently in the top 10 of the BCS....ain't nothing mediocre about that my friend.

You do realize they are the #1 and # 2 teams in the nation-- not just SEC . No one has beaten them.

I would say Auburn and Georgia are good. They aren't great, but they are above average teams. The point I was trying to make was that losing to the top 2 teams in the country doesn't make us mediocre.

In reality, an overtime loss and a close loss when we were leading part of the way through the 4th quarter is hardly what you are describing. But it is good to see that you are exercising your imagination.

They have drugs to help people like you. LSU has been in the SEC since 1933 and has won 10 championships. That's 10 in 76 years. Alabama has the most championships in SEC history with 21 (they also joined in 1933) --- that's 21 in 76 years. However, 13 of those were in Bryant's 25 years. That means they have 8 in the other 51 years.

To expect a championship every year is to set yourself up for many bitter disappointments --- the best remedy is to become a USC fan (oops, doesn't work this year).
