Said LSU gave him a chance and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.

Just said this on WWL.

I find this hard to believe.

PS, I don't hate Shep and think he got a raw deal, just surprised on the comment, even though I am considering the source

This should be good. A bobby hebert and Shep fight all in one thread.

He wouldn't of made a QB in our offense, that much is obvious. If we TAILORED our offense to him though, say Rich Rod's spread when Pat White was there, he could have been successful. Or Oregon's offense, which relies on zone read, short screens then finding a guy wide open down field every so often.

I don't find it hard to believe at all.

Realize a few things. Hebert hates Miles and would never give him and out.

Secondly, if Shep would have been any good he wouldn't have been passed up on the depth charts.

I love Shep, what he has done for LSU and his pure athleticism but he just never was a great football player.

That being said.... I bet Shep could step on a basketball court, a baseball diamond, a golf course, a tennis court, a bowling lane, or any other athletic facility and be pretty good.

This is my biggest reason for believing Hebert's comments.

Know what? I said COULD, not WOULD.

It's obvious what kind of QB he was, obviously not one for a pro-style system. Pat White also would have made a terrible pro-style QB.

Sounds like solid info, to me.

How many of us are old enough to remember Billy Ezell, Pat Screen, and Nelson Stokley, who all played QB for LSU at about the same time. Each had his own specialty; each was pretty effective. But while that was a different era, LSU was a triple threat back then. I'm not saying we should go back to that, but I am saying in recent years we've had very talented QBs, whose "specialty" was not utilized under the current regime. And so they each looked hot/cold out there and the offense suffered.

How so? The coaches put him in the only position he had a shot at in the nfl.

I like Russell and think hes been great for the program. Hes not the fastest nor the strongest guy. He also frequented the bars and i had seen him fricked up on more than one occasion. Also i think his suspension was pretty much the end for him. He lost valuable time and didnt seem to have the best attitude after that. Overall he was just not a great football player. Plenty of five star kids go to other programs and fade away. this is not just something that happens at LSU. Considering LSU doesnt get that many 5* players to begin with.

Why didn't they try him at CB. He has the athleticism and the problem many DBs have: he can't catch!

How do you know he wasn't tried at CB and was absolutely raped at practice?

Just because you are athletic doesn't mean you can just play anywhere.

i thought about that as well. But the way it supposedly went down was that he asked to move to wr, not cb. Its possible the coaches forced him to move to wr and its possible the coaches wanted to try him on d and he didnt want to. No telling really, guess we just have to wait for the book.

Other players have switched positions and had zero problems with it. We also had a guy just switch spots on the line and walk out on the team. Why didnt the coaches try this or why didnt they do that? Some times blame needs to fall on the shoulders of the player.

Barksdale, blackwell, copeland, francois, hatcher, claiborne, peterson, lyle hitt, rj jackson i mean the list goes on and on and on.

Guys in the d backfield like taylor switching from corner to safety, or even a guy like reid switching safety spots, or tm7 playing safety cus the team needed him there.

or guys like brockers, livingston, ego, logan and thomas switching from end to dt.

Not to mention the plethora of guys that have switched spots on the oline. even from center to guard or guard to tackle.

Linebackers moving around like sheppard and baker.

Ron brooks, stevan ridley, chad jones, spencer ware, tharold simon were all listed as athletes.

Alex russian went from te to long snapper.

Clement from DE to TE.

Chris davenport from DT to OT.

Mingo from lb to DE.

Ken adams from TE to DE.

Im sure there will plenty of guys in the future. And even young guys rt now that have been switched around looking to land a spot.

Even under saban players made the switch. Boo hoo the kid couldnt get it done. Thats all this is.

He underthrew a duck to Debose who made a great play on the ball. The reason you can't remember much else is because there wasn't much else, other than his cousin Loston decleating him out of bounds.
