re: Patience is a virtue: QBs tend to get better with more years in college

statistics are valid to a certain extent, but they don't tell the whole story.
some of those qb years coincide with really good defenses. for example, 2011, undefeated regular season - that was one of the worst offenses we've ever had. but that defense, led by Tyrann Mathieu, and the special teams, was so awesome it didn't matter. the one thing the offense could do was to run the ball in from 30 yards out.
when our defense is just average our offenses are really exposed. when we have youngsters it is REALLY EXPOSED.

QB production is not static. Only morons use the talking point that a QB has "it" or not. There are just far too many examples of QBs who suck as freshmen and sophomores but who blossom as juniors and seniors.
Well done, all of your analysis. One more thing, some QBs just don't develop, regardless of the potential. Some are just talented beyond explanation. You can't coach a young man that can't get what it means to be a QB. See Johnny Manziel. Talent, potential, but no head for what it takes.

So as a top prospect in the country at the QB position; he fooled ALL of those top coaches in the country who offered him?
Maybe he didn't develop good under Miles; but take a look at what you are saying right now.
It's obvious you are not a JJ supporter; and neither am I; but I can look at the numbers with the least amount of bias and tell you JJ wasn't terrible here compared to others.

That's another good point.

Not at at LSU....where QB dreams come to die.

EXPERIENCE is recognizing a mistake when you are about to make it again.
If a players is not allowed to play, experience will be very limited.

Apparently, the coaching staff determined that, although Jennings improved from 2014 to 2015, 2015 Jennings was not "only about as good" as 2015 Harris. We don't know what 2015 Jennings might have been, but 2014 Jennings was not nearly as good as 2015 Harris.
But it still messes with the narrative. The statistics which we've been shown may not prove as reliable. If LSU willfully sits a returning starter in favor of an underclassman then it retards the process of getting to the 3rd year with a certain guy. And apparently, that's all you need to do, the stats show it. Jennings would have led LSU to be SEC champs or accomplished a nice feat of having 3000 passing yards with two 1000 yard receivers this year.

as prime minister Disraeli once replied to an opponent in Parliament who was drowning the debate in a barrage of statistics - "Gentlemen, there are three kinds of lies -Lies, damned lies, and statistics!"

Eye opening stats right there. Great work!

There's plenty of RS freshman, or Sophomores with success at the qb position in college these days
Yes there are.
This thread is just another version of the "youth" excuse.

So once Harris is gone I expect to have 3 mediocre years again
No, because we have McMillan and whatever QB recruit we pick up this year as guys in there 3rd or 4th years in college. No way they go into NSD without one.

I understand that, but Player A (Jennings 2014) was about the same as Player B (Harris 2015). Shouldn't Player A be much better in 2015 than he was in 2014? And if Player B in 2015 is only about as good as Player A was in 2014, shouldn't Player A have improved enough to keep his starting job in 2015?
Player B in 2015 was definitely better than Player A in 2014. From yards per attempt, to TDs, to int rate, to completion %,, pretty much better in every way.
It seems like you don't dig deep enough, instead looking more on the surface.
1) Now early on in the season, the WRs had some of the worst cases of drops I had seen in quite a while. Last year they weren't near as bad.
2) Another thing to consider is that Harris was already better than Jennings talent wise. Many said, as well as I did, that once he gets some experience, there would be no doubt who was better.
It's, IMO, that Harris will make a major jump in his second year of starting. He has very experienced talent all around him and he now has a season under his belt. I think people forget that we had two freshman on the line and then when Hawkins went down against Ole Miss, we had two freshman and a backup who plays very little against one of the better DLs in the conference. Same thing with losing Gordon and JD Moore. All of this killed our strong running game over the past 3 weeks and with less blockers, and younger blockers in general, going against solid or better DLs are a major hassle.
After sitting around and thinking about it, there were logical reasons why we fell flat in November.

No, we just had short fields in 2011 thanks to our awesome special teams and defensive play. We usually started most drives around the 40.
The QBs in 2011, even with playing the ridiculous Bama defense twice plus top 10 defense in UGA;
62% 2135 yards (7.7 ypa) 21 TDs 5 ints
276 rush yards (3.32 ypa) 3 TDs
The running game as a whole put up 2836 yards (21st in ypg) and 35 TDs (10th in country) and 4.8 ypc (27th in the country).
In passing LSU was 43rd in cmp%, 24th in QB rating, tied for 41st in yards per attempt.
Only resonance why you think we were bad on offense was because we didn't throw that much. We were 111th in attempts and 113th in attempts per game.
Outside of three gamez we played (two against the #1 defense and one against the #10 defense) that offense was very efficient.

What is your definition of success?

you have to remember this as well -the defense kept handing the ball back to the offense after short possessions by the opposition. makes our stats look better. it was not a good offense by any stretch. but for some reason we could run the ball with a short field.
then, too, as I recall, we were efficient with j lee at qb for 2/3's of the season. when JJ came back we couldn't pass anymore, and it was the tail end of the offense I remember more vividly.
