I've got a better and more thorough explanation to "defend" the committee and their reasoning. But I think our 1 less win than all the other 4-loss teams hurt us pretty badly. They are trying to be as objective as possible and not let biases influence them, and--objectively--8-4 is better than 7-4. That gave them cover to have us that far behind Auburn and the like. Yes, it may suck now that we won't go to the Sugar, but this is how we want them to think if we're ever on the 4/5/6 bubble. We want them to pick the objectively most deserving than the subjective

Even though we would have destroyed South Alabama.

This just goes to show that the committee doesn't actually look at the teams. It just looks at the surface of the thing.

Would beating South Alabama have really meant we were more deserving than Auburn? I could see the argument, just not sure if it would overcome a head to head loss

Thanks Sankey/Foley/yellow teeth

But we didn't. Tha extra game was a risk we didn't have to take that other 4 loss teams did. It wasn't our fault, but they have to rank based on what actually happened, not on what could--or even--should have happened. Which is what they should.

Not really. It may mean the opposite, actually. We didn't have any good wins, really. And wins have always been valued way more than "good" loses. As they should. Put our resume next to Auburn's and try to objectively make a case that ours is better. You really can't. Even though you--and certainly I--think(based on the eye test) that we're better than them right now. Objectively, we deserve to be ranked lower.

We don't deserve to go to the Sugar Bowl over Auburn and a rent-a-win over So Alabama wouldn't have changed that

Does Auburn deserve to go over A&M who has the exact same record, but beat Auburn? What about Tennessee, who was also 8-4? I'm saying that a bunch of teams with 4-losses were pretty even, but our 1 less win was an easy way to put us behind. Have a more in depth point before you enter my thread again. I'm trying to keep this Rantard free.

I was thinking this same thing earlier today. A&M beat Auburn but we hung 54 on A&M. That means nothing apparently now.

Is Tennessee still ranked after losing to Vanderbilt? I don't have the courage to look it up.

They probably looked at head-to-head, as well as the other polls, most of which have AU ranked higher.

If we would have scheduled the game for this weekend we could have jumped ahead of Auburn

It's not so much just the missing win, but the timeline of how it played out.

If we follow up a close loss to Bama with three straight wins to finish the season against @Ark, S Ala, and @A&M, that makes 8-4 look a whole lot different. Even if we still lose to UF, and that's a big if, at least it's on the road and not so recent in the committees mind.

We dropped out of the rankings after losing to UF, but if we win that week, even if the win doesn't give us much of a bump, we still go into the A&M game in the teens. That puts us close to top 10 after the A&M win, which is ahead of where Auburn sits now.

Many have said Auburn only dropped one spot because everyone behind them lost too, whereas we didn't have anyone lose the week we lost to Bama, so we dropped further behind more teams that won.

Before losing to UF, we were 16, and Auburn was 15. If we don't have another loss, it's pretty certain we would have moved up ahead of them after Auburn lost.

It just really screwed up the great way the schedule was supposed to play out this year. Finally having an OOC team in November was supposed to be a huge break for this team.

Had the game never been rescheduled then the losses would have happened during regime transition. After which LSU would have destroyed its final 3 teams. An interception, one second, Alabama, and one foot kept this team from greatness.

Sour ending but at least Cam Cameron is gone. Come on down Lane Kiffin.

Our crappy clock management against Auburn hasn't helped us either.

The more I think about it, I don't think Alleva pushed to get the UF game played on the scheduled weekend nearly as much as he claims. Which could explain his silence in the media in the days leading up to the game when he could have been pressuring UF to come up with contingency plans for that weekend just like every other school I. The region. Instead, let O send the players home for a bye week almost immediately rather than continuing to fight for the game that weekend or early the next week.

If hiring O really was his preferred end game, postponing the UF game allowed six weeks of buildup for O. He was just coming off the huge "record setting" win that everyone loved as such a change of pace from Miles.

Alleva knew the fans could keep that in mind for an extra week and then build on it after another likely win against Southern Miss, and give O a home shot against his former team that plays no defense to continue to build his campaign a the people's coach.

Then two more weeks before Bama to keep that campaign going in the media and even have the media lay out the idea that you can't judge O on if he beats Bama or not.

This truly was a perfect storm, as it is the only way you could replace an SEC and NC winning coach with one that has gone winless in the SEC and get a substantial portion on your fanbase to applaud you for it.
