My failure was in making it a question. I didn't know if he had joined the team. I doubt they gain 30 pounds but 10 pounds would be most likely. I see them ending up a 285-290 where holmes was last year. They pull the center a lot so he can't be fat. The players have to be conditioned, so getting them fat isn't at a premium. Armstong came out of high school at 290, so they've actually slimmed down the baby fat.

1)Will LSU have a good QB developed in time to play UO?

Check out JJ's performances over the last few weeks of the season against Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Texas A&M and you'll have your answer.

2)Will LSU mesh with your new OC and his new offense in time? First game of the year, cob webs usually show then. Plus this is a new offense for you, new OC. What is your thoughts in this department?

Will be a lot of the same with simplified reads for the QB. The whole spring has been designed to make things easier for JJ.

3)Besides QB, what are your other weakness's you see perhaps with your team in this first game?

Leadership on D. We'll miss departed MLB Kelvin Sheppard. He was the team captain and emotional leader.

I hear ya, no prob.

Fairley really hurt your OL with his quickness. Freak I would say has that same kind of talent with size that could hurt your OL. Looks to me like the lines will decide what kind of game we get and of course I am biased but I like what LSU has on both sides

This IS what cfb is all about!

Ask any of the older Tiger fans what the most memorable games were. I'm sure you'll get your share of "Auburn earthquake game" or "ambushed #1 Florida" ...

But you'll also get a lot of USC '82, Ohio State '87, Notre Dame '70. More recently you'd have Virginia Tech '07.

These games should be played more often. I think we do it for exposure and money. If you win, it can be a launching pad for a title run. If you lose, you're not out of it because you can say you lost to a good team.

Good luck and

I found it odd that LSU was ranked so low given that reputation of death valley.

The "Death Valley Decline" hypothesis.

CBS (day game) + spoiled fanbase (too many NCs) + down year (such as 08) or crap opponent (like, say, Troy) = quiet Tiger Stadium.

That is the hypothesis and I think it is more or less true.

But the place still gets rockin for the big games.

In all honesty, snap, do you think "freak" shows up and is Fairley in the first game of his collegiate career?

Our nose tackle, Heimuli, was starting to get rave reviews and drawing comparisons to Haloti Ngata last season. He did some good things like make the rotation as a true true frosh. I expect him to really take a quantam leap this next season.

Fairley was largely MIA his first season at Auburn. In any case, is he penciled in as the starter?

As far as the offensive line, I am wondering why there is such a premium on weight? Where does diminishing return begin on weight? Armstrong posted the heaviest squat and fastest shuttle time. Oregon doesn't want the same type of olinemen as LSU. In any case, last year's deficiency was about talent. At the end of day, the three seniors in Holmes, Kaiser and Thran were not great individual talents. None of them sniffed the NFL despite over a 100 starts between them. What Oregon has now is more athleticism but less experience. Obviously, we would rather be facing Misouri state in the first game but first games are a crapshoot, so who knows?

it is interesting to read posts from a good sunshine pumper for the Ducks

Not saying you guys don't have a great team btw, maybe better than LSU next year... but I'm not sure the 85 Bears beat the team you're describing... at least not unless they are really on their A game

Do you know where you are staying yet? A group of us are trying to decide between staying in Fort Worth or Dallas? We're in our late 20's and early 30's, so the Dallas nightlife looks to offer more (although from what I have read it looks like a bunch of night clubs filled with cheese d*cks), but Fort Worth is closer to the stadium....

When did I compare the two conferences in this thread? I do remember saying in another thread that the gap between the two isn't as big as most SEC fans want to admit.

Kid, I dont share the same feelings as you. I agree with another, I think the gap is super thin between PAC-SEC. However the PAC is up 12 games to 10 over the SEC this last century(the modern BCS era). And both conferences did .500 in bowls. And in the title game it was as close as you can get.

Not all cases, but the large majority of those matchups was the top of the pac10 playing the SEC bottom feeders.

not a lot of fair matchups... you could make the case that the only even matchup in the last ten years was auburn vs oregon last year

mismatches don't tell you much... whether that's a NC USC team beating a 8 win Auburn team, a good Oregon team beating a bad MSU team, or a NC LSU team thumping a bad Arizona team

This isn't Tennessee though. Many of the posters in this thread weren't even alive the last time LSU lost to a Pac whatever team.

Your in-state rivals came closest in the last ten games, but their all star kicker missed three extra points lol. The post-Katrina ASU game in Tempe was pretty good, too.

But the last team from your conference LSU lost to was a preseason number one ranked USC team 17-12 in 1979. We got the return match in the Coliseum 23-3 in 1984. Undefeated against Pac teams since then.

quote:

While the SEC is 9-11 versus the Pac-10 since 2000, LSU is 13-3 all-time versus the Pac-10, including recent wins over Oregon State, Arizona State, Washington and Arizona (twice). The Tigers are 2-1 vs. Oregon.

The SEC has won it what, the past 5 years in a row? By three different schools too...that says a lot about the strength (and depth) of the conference.
